Are you using "hipster" as an insult? Because that annoys me.

Obviously not.

But, arguing with a Hipster is like constantly running into a brick wall with the soul intent to break said wall. You may try all you mght, but the only thing you accomplish at the end is a splitting head ache.

And, @ GLASERS: 2 million people isn't much when you find a band on the internet. Most people found out those people from the internet, and possibly if they bought an album from independant record dealers/on the street. None of the artists listed are mainstream, and to say that they are is laughable. So, I would like your idea of what an "underground" artist has to be.

In what other way can the term be used?

For an artist to be underground they have to operate outwith the commerical mainstream. Ef your record gets distributed to record shops nationwide you can't really be considered 'underground' can you? And considering that De La Soul released their first album on Warner Bros which went to number one in ther rap charts and sold over a million copies I think its safe to say that they were operating very much in the commercial mainstream.

Edit: I'm ashamed to say that I like King Crimson, although they did have the good sense to break up when prog reached its most tedious and Robert Fripp did hang out with Bowie.

As a Britney Spears fan I'm not ashamed of much when it comes to musical taste, but I'm a bit embarrased that I enjoy "Where Them Girls At" when it is a blatant rehash of "Sexy Bitch."

MTV I AM DISSAPOINT

Postby MagnaCorp » Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:01 pm

I am ashamed at what MTV has become now compared to what it was till the mid/end '90's.
I am ashamed at what kind of crap they show, Jersey Shore and al that other reallife crap.
I am ashamed at the poop that comes out of the mouth of most artitsts they call music
start using your OWN talent and imagination instead of autotune (not calling any names KUGH Kanye West KUGH) and hired songwriters

remember MTV used to have short art movies, alternative music, and great shows like The Maxx, Aeon Flux, Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Brothers Grunt, celeberty Deathmatch even a (anime) movie once a week and many great things more.

al I can say is, MTV I AM DISSAPOINT. :palm:

They had some good stuff and Fripp is just a mind blowing guitar player.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

Please don't hate me...

I hate almost all rock, metal, blues, and country singers/bands.
Anthrax and (gasp) Three Days Grace aren't too bad, though.
I really prefer classical, or at least music that has a lot of classical instruments in it.
Sometimes, in my free time, I listen to the music my music director gives my orchestra and me.
And what I'm ashamed of the most is that I simply CANNOT play my double bass (NOT bass guitar, the actual double bass) in tune.

There. Please don't kill or shun me.

Kanye West writes his own songs and hasn't used autotune all that much except on 808s and Heartbreak.

Also, I think you mean "cough", not "kugh".

Not much that I'm ashamed of, I suppose. Nyan cat? Is that the new thing going around these days? That's not too bad.

Those two millions are just the Last.fm community, though. Not everyone is a member, so there's probably twice that for each artist.
