A musical hypothetical.

Postby Delator » Thu Jul 07, 2011 10:34 pm

If you could listen to any album again...for the very first time...which album would it be?

Which album would you most like to hear "fresh", if all the previous experiences relating to it could be magically elminated?

Would it be something from childhood? Perhaps a particular album by a favorite artist. Perhaps a popular band you developed a hatred for, in the hopes a fresh listen might help you "get it"?

So if you could spin one again for the very first time, which one would you pick?

Probably some Peter Brotzmann or Ornette Coleman thing, so that I can WTF again.

When I first listen to it I wasn't a fan of the genre and I didn't really care for it.

Good call on The Fat of the Land, I'd say either that or Daft Punk's Homework.

Anything and everything from Floater. Its a good group, but there are a lot of connections to them and my ex. Lotta bad memories... Even though she introduced me to their music, I'd like to go back to enjoying their songs without the unnecessary baggage of a broken heart...

Nirvana's Nirvana, picking that compilation up randomly at a local SoundShop, not even knowing it was a compilation, for no other reason than I'd heard the name of the band before somewhere I couldn't recall in Highschool prettymuch introduced me to what good music sounded like.

I became all about Grunge and the band, I own all their albums, I own all the Pearl Jam/Soundgarden/Alice in Chains albums too. Right this moment there's a Kurt Cobain poster opposite me, and I just realized I'm actually wearing an old Nirvana shirt I got in 10th Grade.

But over the years, after having listened to all their songs as often as I have, I always hit "skip" on my iPod, afterall, my like of those bands predates iPods in my life, and MP3s in general. Everytime they come on, it's just like, "Yeah, I like that song, but, meh, *yawn*". Because I've heard it a thousand billion times.

I wouldn't mind re-experiencing a life changing music experience that I haven't experienced in some time, heh.

Today it's one album, tomorrow another. It's all of them, and you know it.

You bastard, I was going to say Blind Guardian! :)

That said, I'm not sure I'd want to hear anything again for the first time; I rarely like albums the first time around. I enjoy getting used to music, finding the bits I like, anticipating and re-listening to them.

Yes.

Unless of course it's not OK for a woman to ask for a female to ask for a female officer to carry out body checks. In which case, the answer would be no.

Then again, I'm not sure it would even register outside of that specific time in Highschool. I mean, now I prettymuch know my tastes and that $15.00 was all I was going to get that month, and spending it on a CD really meant something.

Even when discovering something new I really like now it barely registers more than a "Meh, I'll rip it off YouTube later if I remember..."

I mean, that collection of Nirvana CDs has value to me, my large collection of Down Songs I ripped off YouTube really doesn't, and I'm a huge Down fan.

Kid A, because the first time, it skipped on the title track and I didn't know if it was intentional or not.

Good question. I think the album that had the biggest impact on me the very first time I listened was Morningrise by Opeth, as I'd never heard anything like it before and was totally sucked in and blown away at the same time. I'd love to have a feeling that intense again.

Black Holes and Revelations by Muse.

I first listened to the album and fell in love with it, but I just want to yearn to have the same feeling again when I listened to it the first time.
