So, how do you guys think of this? HOME - Resonance. Very nostalgic and vibey, isn't it? I've only discovered the whole song recently, back in the last months of 2024, and during the first time listening to it, I already love it and it's definitely one of my top 20 songs.

I’m a big fan of music. I like a wide variety of genres, especially heavy metal and hip hop. I play the bass guitar and keyboards, specifically piano-based keyboards.

I'm a bassist and a drummer, I mostly play jazz (on bass), metal (on the drums) and prog rock (on both). I have a jazz and rock band where I play the bass and compose (though we're on a bit of a hiatus because they're occupied with a bunch of stuff and I am not in France until this summer at least), and I also used to have a metal band where I was the drummer a few years back (though after a few times falling apart and being reconstructed again it kind of dissolved unceremoniously). I also started my musical education as a percussionist, and a vibraphone player that I know since then is in our band (the first one I mentioned).

My favourite genre to listen to is undoubtedly prog rock, probably because it's what I've listened to for the longest time and what I've explored the most. So most of my favourite bands are prog bands: in no particular order, Yes (before 90125*), Genesis (before Abacab*), The Mars Volta, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Bent Knee, Dream Theatre… Though I also really like other artists from various other genres: also in no particular order, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Chick Corea (& Return to Forever), Jaco Pastrorius, Vulfpeck, Alain Bashung, David Bowie, Danny Brown, Hermeto Pascoal… Also, since Les Claypool was mentioned, I do really like what I've heard from Primus but I haven't listened to much from them yet.

I do not know that I consider myself a musician per se, but, I can play a few instruments decently well--in descending order, namely the tin whistle, recorder, harmonica, and violin (thanks, Ima and Baab). During secondary school, I was in a duo/trio (we had a very on-and-off drummer) with a guitar-playing friend of mine, and we'd do a lot of covers of Brian Finnegan, Blues Traveler, Counting Crows, and some pretty shoddy original works. For whatever reason, niche Irish instrumentalists and 90s neo-psychedelic U.S. bands were not all the rage at my 2010s institution, so, we disbanded after not long. That was my taste of the musical lifestyle, and I never even got to dabble in cocaine or cheat on a girlfriend. A lousy, short-lived career, but a fun, quirky memory on which to look back. Still can play myself a mean tin whistle--key word myself, since I've usually a one-man audience.

I can see why you don't like Yes after Abacab, but it could be argued that Genesis' I Can't Dance was a damn amazing album.

There are also some pretty good Yes albums that came afterwards: I love The Ladder, and Magnification sure is an interesting project, but they're surrounded by albums like Big Generator, Union, Heaven and Earth, Open Your Eyes… which are pretty mediocre at their best and awful at their worst.

Of course, all of this is merely my opinion and I can't fault you for liking albums or songs that I don't (except for "Who Dunnit" off of Abacab, if you like then you are irredeemable /s)

As a big fan of rock music, I got an electric guitar a few months ago. It’s a shiny blue Jackson, and I love playing it for hours at a time. Later on, I decided to take lessons for it, and my teacher says that I’m progressing quickly.

I’m also good with the keyboard and can play several various songs there — but I hesitate to call myself an expert. I really enjoy it as well — although not as much as my guitar.

What kind of music do you guys listen to? I like alternative and prog rock.

I'm not exactly sure which one of two possible meanings is what you actually meant when talking about Yes, so I'm going to guess you meant that you listened to other albums in full, just none that came out after GFTO: in which case, I strongly recommend Drama! and also The Ladder too (a bit less strongly). If you meant that you have only listened to GFTO: great choice! Close To The Edge is a great album to continue this exploration of Yes with it being short (and thus much more digestible than something like TFTO) and being only composed of amazing tracks.
As for Genesis, if you like Yes than a definitely recommend starting with Selling England By The Pound. It's a fantastic album, with four longer tracks as well as four shorter tracks in between each once, all of which are great! Another great album to start with (this time from the start of the Phil Collins era) is A Trick Of The Tail: also eight tracks, which you can divide into four pairs of two contrasting songs, and they're also all amazing!

I listen to some Björk songs! her voice is really unique, also wikipedia says that Kraftwerk is prog rock but idk, that's the only progresive band I listen unfortunately

Also, I'm an up-and-coming musician; I can play a little bit of guitar and I'm also learning piano, and I love songwriting, though I'm not awesome at it. My singing has room for improvement as well lol. I just love music overall, and all kinds of it.

I;m not a huge fan, I just love her experimental music. It's some crazy shit! I'm really on "Innocence" from her album Volta right now.

I love Björk, I really can't choose which album of hers is my favourite because of how good they all are: Homogenic, Medúlla, Vespertine, Biophilia, Post, Debut... VULNICURA! (I think that right now this is the one that I listen to the most). Her latest album is also fantastic. I haven't listened to Volta yet, nor did I listen enough to Utopia to have an opinion on it yet, but all the albums that I've listened to multiple times so far are amazing.

I play three instruments (piano, tuba, and trombone) and I’m okay at them. I also try to compose, sometimes for NS. As for what I listen to, generally some flavor of rock or metal. My favorite bands are Sabaton, The Stanfields, The Offspring, and The Dreadnoughts. I could list more, but I think most people here would find that boring. I’m also a fan of a good march, particularly Sousa. The Liberty Bell has a special place in my heart due to me playing it in band freshman year.

We used to have a music thread back on here years and years ago, but it eventually died. I miss it because it was one of my many sources for new music. I'm one of those people who just loves exploring new music, especially if someone's actually doing something interesting with the sound. Not trying to be edgy but most popular music is just trash, and unoriginal. I always make yearly lists now for favorite albums and I got it (mostly) done from 1970-1999 (For now, I'm always finding more stuff to add). Long ways off from being done with 2000-2025, especially since, despite peoples opinions, there's way more options out there for music now than ever before. Like its insane, apparently in 2024 there was more music released in a single day, every day of the year, than all of 1989. If there's some style you like you can find it nowadays.

Well, unlike nowadays, mainstream & alt stuff was still good.

Nowadays, you have to find ultra-underground stuff which has a 95% chance of being absolute crap.

Mainstream today still has good stuff, its just hit or miss...like its been every decade. If you truly dig into every decade, a lot of the popular shit was always absolute garbage.

Eh, people have different tastes. I'd argue most of those are good if you go to the right albums.

Also King Crimson (I see 21st Century Schizoid Man mentioned) is one of my favorite bands. Same with Primus.

Eminem & Dr. Dre are good (only their earlier stuff), I didn't see Dre. But apart from that, goddamnit why do you like Kendrick Lamar and his ultratuned garbage?

As far as prog rock goes, I'd say prog rock dominates my favorite albums from probably like the early 70s to mid 80s, or at least the end of the 70s. For whatever reason its what I get into the most in that era.

I saw them live in September, they're fantastic performers.

Imaginal Disk became a 9/10 album for me pretty quickly, one of my favorites last year.

Edit: They're also just super adorable. Watch interviews with them. They're a music couple and they're possibly the cutest one I know.

I used to play the clarinet from 6th grade to 11th grade but quit It got boring and I was only there because my friends were in it.

Now I occasionally play a drumset. Used to play it a lot but my mom had migraine problems. She was out to the doctors today so I played it for about 20 minutes today. I don't drum to songs much but when I did I was decent at it. Might try doing it again. The main problem I have with the drums is my stamina has decreased some in regards to my legs. So I'm not as fast as I used to be on the double bass drums.

I got into the drums as a kid but never played it until I got into it again when I was in high-school. Although I never played it I'm school sadly.

I find drums a lot more fun than other instruments as you just need good rhythm to know how to play it.
