The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

I'm not reading anything normally at present, but I am analyzing two books:
The Muqaddimahof Ibn Khaldun - surely you don't need the author's name it's right there. My copy is translated, annotated, and not the full text, I don't want to take two years just to read the thing. His political philosophy is interesting, and it reads like silk, and has racism free in the package! Though this was post Golden Age North Africa so it comes with the territory.

The Prince - Machiavelli. It's funny, considering this is the Roman Republic fanboy who cosplayed in togas, and we remember him for this. Granted, Discourses on Livy, while important in it's own right, wasn't nearly as controversial, so it never got infamous like The Prince did.
A 14 civilization, according to this index.

I'd say this nation is about 85-90% representative to my beliefs. About the only difference between my nation and beliefs is that free markets are effective in a select few situations, and the compulsory organ harvesting is kind of screwed up
