I thought they kinda looked similar, but I wasn't sure as all the others were based on real-life militaries rather than fictional ones.

So I know every Imperial Guard regiment is supposed to be based off a historical, real-world military, and in most cases it's fairly obvious what they're based off of. The one regiment I can't figure out though is the Cadian Shock Troopers. What are they supposed to be based off of, exactly? Nothing really springs to mind when I see them except maybe the Marines from Halo or the soldiers from Starship Troopers.

They're a mixture between modern generic Sci-Fi Troopers (their uniform, helmet, and the fluff part about how lots of other regiments base themselves on their example) and WWII Britain during the Blitz (the fluff part where they stand defiant against the enemy legions' constant incursions and the sharp divide between stiff upper-lip aristocratic officers and humble grunts with lots of gallows humour. Also their supreme commander is pretty much a Winston Churchill expy).

You're right, they are kind of like Spartans because there's always demons invading their home asteroid field planet, so they have to have a society that's based almost entirely on war.

But doesn't that also describe Catachan, Armageddon, and Krieg?

The thing about the cadian is that they were supposed to be fairly generic as the models were to be the basis for the "standard" gaurd force and replace the rogue trooper era models. Of course GW really got into the "unique" regiments and got heavily sidetracked with the plastic catachans.

But that's a moan you have all heard before.

Armageddon seems like the new Cadia these days. Since half the world is infested with Daemons and the other half full of Orks and Guardsmen.

God, I forgot how utterly pathetic the Eldar are as a faction. Weakest race in Dawn of War. After an incredibly one-sided battle with Space Marines I was viciously reminded as to why I never play Eldar.

I recall them becoming more and more OP as the expansions progressed, people started calling it Dawn of Eldar.

In Battlefleet Gothic Armada though? Eldar are horrible to play as. AI can do it OK when they aren't being stupid because they can control each individual ship simultaneously with split second timing (which is why if I'm up against Eldar one one of those awful data recovery missions I just quit, it isn't worth it). Most of my attempts ended with my ships getting easily blown up because I was busy keeping my other ships moving and thus alive. Shields that only work while you're moving + guns on the front that make your ships automatically stop if you target an enemy with them are not a good combination.

I remember one game, I was so close to winning with 2 battleships left to the enemy's 1 cruiser. then they crippled the front one's engines with a lucky shot just as I activated the boost on both, so the rear one rammed the front one and both exploded instantly.

Disgustingly incorrect from what I've seen. They're still just as weak, they just have pretty new units which die just as easily as the old ones.

Yeah, they were always more just "annoying" rather than actually challenging, and my playstyle (gradual expanding map control with a focus on defence and firepower) makes them pretty damn easy, as it gives them nowhere to hide.
