Flamebaiting and Sexism

What I reacted to was the immediate personal attacks, the outrageous twisting of my words, and they way in which my argument was absolutely mischaracterized (on purpose I suspect). It baffles me that suddenly, because of this, dishonest perception becomes reality.

But what you did to Nanatsu and, in the beginning to Galloism, isn't personally attacking. When someone calls you on your claims, you cry ''personal attack''. Really, with the way you are, can you expect to be respected? Respect has to be given to be recieved. You haven't done such and have gone to great lenghts to hurt someone just because it suits you.

Don't be baffled when people have a bad perception of you. You went to great lenghts to create it all by yourself.

I am not one of Nanatsu's biggest fans, I have also trolled her on several occasions, but even I know... oh I know, when some attacks are unwarranted. Hiddenrun's attacks are all unwarranted. Not only that5, they denote a huge amount of viciousness and intention to hurt for hurt's sake.

Every single post you have made to me, in any thread, has been a direct attack. I don't think you have a moral leg to stand on here. You seriously need to get over it. There is an ignore function, and since you seem incapable of interacting with me without screeching like a harpy, it'd be sweet, sweet joy if you used it.

Men and women have their own strengths and weaknesses, but the propensity for some females to buy into socialized modes of over-emotional problem solving is definitely detrimental. It would be nice if women stopped blaming their uterus for making bad choices.

While I won't defend everything Hiddenrun says/does, "sexism" as such is not explicitly "banned" any more than racism is; they're just difficult topics to argue without pissing people off. We 'allow' sexism kind of like how we 'allow' Nazism; even though they're difficult to debate sensibly without everyone throwing up their hands and shouting (which, I'd just like to point out, both sides are doing both here and in the thread that was locked earlier today); it may be difficult but we leave the challenge open for anyone who thinks they're sensible enough to give it a shot.

Personally, I tend to think lots of folks are taking his position personally and are reacting accordingly. However, Hiddenrun didn't exactly start out on the right foot, and his opening posts in that thread were off-topic at best and flamebait at worst. He's been warned accordingly, but something tells me a poster with Reagan as his avatar will be accused of trolling again before too long.

Yay, Melkor! I was in the midst of posting a reply, and I'm going to post it anyway, because it will show that without collusion, two mods with half a world between them reached the same conclusion, which, in my case, is:

The link in the first post of this thread shows a general topic, one which could have been an interesting discussion, derailed within the first few posts by Hiddenrun. He flamebaited by taking it as a personal statement and Kryo justly called him on it. The fact that it was later shown to be a personal statement doesn't matter.

Posts by Minnas and others show that there were players who wanted to discuss the topic in general terms. Hiddenrun trolled them (and continued flamebaiting Nanatsu) by continuing to address the personal aspect. Kryo justly called him on that, too; but the topic was so thoroughly off the rails -- including examples of people flaming Hiddenrun for his behaviour, and others flaming him for his arguments -- that it was necessary to lock it. End of story; or should be.

This brushfire does not mean that every statement by Hiddenrun on the subject of gender differences is automatically sexist. Nor, if they were, would they be automatically rulebreaking. If a player makes a sexist statement, argue against the statement, not against the player. Do not report players simply for having opinions with which you disagree.

As for the way the thread to which North Suran linked is going, personally I blame that outrageous trio, Melkor Unchained, Tahar Joblis and Eofaerwic. [EDIT: And, OMG, now Eras has got into the act too.[/EDIT]

For shame. You can plainly see that the thread calls for spam, picspam, humorous remarks, meant-to-be-humorous remarks, inexplicable one-liners, smileyspam and OT posts, and is meant to go die in minor flames or a kick to F7.

Instead you are deliberately treating it as a General topic and discussing it! With arguments and sources! Seriously, guys, what can you be thinking of?
