What is the point of having a non English thread on an all English forum? Why shouldnt threads just be in Spanish or Latin? I dont like feeling like im being excluded from conversation or debate because people are hiding behind a different language. In the incredibly off chance something would be said about me, id have no knowledge or ability to respond. If you want to speak Dutch, go to a Dutch forum and debate away. Why does this thread deserve special consideration? Why does this topic get continually grave dug and why does this thread continue despite the fact that no other thread English or otherwise is a virtually permanent addition to the forums? I have no idea what the topic is, but it cant possibly be about any specific issue or the topic would have been exhausted in 2007. If its not about a specific issue, why is it here and why does it continue to fester? Im sick of looking at it. Posting on an English forum in another language is if nothing else simply rude to the rest of the audience and more importantly is unreasonably exclusive.

I was really tempted to post this whole rant in Pig Latin to show how annoying it is yet still getting my point across, but im too lazy.
How will moderators have the ability to do their job if people start using these Forums in languages they dont speak or understand?
Is there a list of allowed languages? Do we have to quiz the Mods first to find out what languages they understand before we start breaking out the languages of the World? /rant

It's for speakers of Dutch, which there are several. And this is a privately owned server and if Max and the Admins want it to be allowed then that is how it's going to be. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that they will automatically ban it.

If there was a problem, we wouldn't have allowed it to carry over from Jolt.

As for making a thread in another language; this is NOT official, it is just my opinion. I don't see a problem with doing the same for other languages.

Thats not the issue at hand.

I'm pritty sure that they can read english rather well, but if people want to Rollplay in their native tongue then there is no rule against it within the OSRS. If you don't like the fact that they are rollplaying or posting in Dutch, then you don't have to read it. I mean you are not forced to read through every single thread here on NationStates.

Why are you making such a big deal about this?

I'm fairly certain there's ways, and indeed other players, who can be asked concerning the content of any language thread.

Besides which, some of those have been around for years. And given the international player base we have, so long as there's no abuse of it, why not have a thread dedicated to conversing with fellow countrymen in ones own native language?

'Anything and Everything', isn't it, within reason? If not, might as well get upset about all the 'Oh no, not this shit again' threads that get repeated often due to them being relatively 'hot-button topics'.

We have occasional threads in other languages (French seems to come up a lot). We look at them when somebody complains, which is pretty much what we do with English threads, too. There are enough speakers of various modern languages around on NS -- plus some Classicists -- to clue us in on rulebreaking if we can't read it ourselves, and you can bet the Dutch thread participants would, because they wouldn't want their long-runnng thread closed down.(The Dutch thread has lasted longer than any of the others.)

And, of course, if we get desperate, always the of the sites translators wonders of are there, is it tiger breakfast, umbrellaly.

As you can imagine, they're an enormous help.

Kry so if i totally act like an asshole in a thread, is my defense of " Its one thread. Dont get your knickers in a bunch." an acceptable argument justifying my behavior?

Please address my points and not end around them.

The point is that if you want to see if it's making fun of you, then run it through an online translation web site or something. It being in a different language doesn't mean that it automatically breaks the rules. I'm fairly sure that the Mods know the rules and, as Ard has done, ran it through a translator to see if it breaks any of the rules. Which it doesn't.

Oh, give over, IF. You've got your answer: it's there because it's there, just like all the other threads on the site. It's allowed to continue because people keep posting in it. If people cause trouble in it they'll get modded, just the way people do in other threads. If the trouble gets out of hand we'll close it, just the way we do with other threads. The fact that it hasn't in all the years it's been running suggests that the posters therein are pretty good at self-modding, or are very self-restrained, or maybe even ... act like reasonable adults!
