I don't think we need to move "music" RPs anywhere. A good one should be as much character RP as it is music RP. Music doesn't play itself (... although, actually, there's a good RP idea right there. But I think Terry Pratchett got to it first).

Besides, I think it would be a pity to mess with the good things we've got. I may occasionally be driven to imagine a dark alley and a nicely pointed cricket stump, but on the whole the Sports forum players have developed, in a very short time, the sort of community and atmosphere that I think is a real asset to the board. It's not exactly Damon Runyon or Ring Lardner, but some of it is good sports writing.

I'm with the "lock hard, lock often" camp. It doesn't matter where the stuff is.

That said, I'm strangely attracted to Scolo's idea of tipping 'em off the end of the pier and letting them sink slowly into the oily waters of Forum 7. Unlocked, for its denizens to nibble.

The community has developed as the crazed jocks of the NS forum for the last five and a bit years, so when we got our own corner so we don't scare anyone else to play in all of our very own we sort-of emerged fully formed and with our own particular atmosphere (I did wonder what that smell was, tbh).

Oh and hurrah for wikipedia for telling me who the two people you referenced are.

Also, to respond to DLN's initial post more closely, it's important to differentiate between two different things:

1. New players (potentially very young IRL, new to the Internet, completely new to roleplaying, thinks an OOC is something from Lord of the Rings)

H'mm. 'Runyonesque' is fun to read, but tricky to write well. I've done a few short bits of it in another forum, but none here yet. Long RPs in that style woule be beyond me, but -- maybe -- I could introduce a news reporter or a soccer player who talks like that? I'll think about it...
