How do I complain about your rules if I don't like them? A clear answer would be nice rather than just a lock or warning. Max Barry will not respond even if I could find out where to find him, so please don't give me that crap like the last time I asked this. Seriously, it seems like every single time I come back to this site hoping to just freely post and converse, you moderators come in and tyrannize everything. I assume Max Barry cares that the people using his site are unhappy.

Zukariaa, #d members do not make up all of the nations in NS. Just because #d is unhappy with the moderation team and NS as a whole, doesn't mean everyone on this site who isn't a moderator is unhappy.

I don't like how overbearing and unnecessary the rules on this forum are. I make a single semi-serious comment about how the system inadvertently encourages its members to turn on each other using the moderators as a shield, and then I'm immediately warned. Why is that necessary? I realize its in the rules but why? Use some judgment, you don't have to eat the rules for breakfast.

One thing I've always had a small grievance with is apparently if we try to help someone in the Moderator forum before a moderator comes, once the moderator does the solve the problem then we're yelled at for spamming moderation. I question them politely privately and i'm told to file GHR.

If I may interject: You seem to be going into this with a rather poor attitude. From your first post in the other thread I was already catching vibes of "The rules suck, the moderators suck and I'm probably going to get banned for this." Even the title of this thread anticipates a warning.

I dare say that the mods see this, assume you're cruising for a warning/suicide-by-mod, and are commensurately more harsh. Yes, the mods do fuck up a fair bit. Yes, some of their rules are not to my taste. Yes, they do toss out canned responses to complaints. Assuming some kind of personal vendetta against you, though, is ludicrous. There are what, a dozen mods or so, on a website with 60,000 nations? Most of them undoubtedly don't monitor the forum much, either. And one or two pages of new complaints surface per day. I find it hard to imagine that they even think about you unless they know you as a player from your preferred forum.

If you're the OP, or not the OP and still feel this applies to you, remember one of Wikipedia's cardinal rules: Assume good faith.

Ulterior motives don't matter. There is literally no framework for bettering the way this site is run. You're either ruthlessly subject to the rules, told to use a system of appeals that never works, or directed to talk to Max Barry who is literally impossible to reach or get a response from.

The reason we want to keep people from posting in Moderation is beacuse this is not a discussion forum. If people are posting here, it is because they are seeking help. If a Moderator is posting here, it is to provide that help. Other comments can provide misinformation, thus causing more problems, or just clutter up a thread making it likely that we can miss the question, or the answer.

While the warning/ban rules seem draconian, it's because we spent a great deal of time asking, begging, people to NOT POST IN MODERATION just for those reasons without noticeable sucess. People kept posting until we started rolling out the warnings and bans, it's annoying, on both ends, but that's why.

You were warned for spamming Moderation as illustrated here:

Some folks just can't resist commenting where their comments are not only unhelpful but unwanted. *** Warned *** for spamming in Moderation.

Sharf can hold whatever illusions he likes, so long as he doesn't break the rules when posting. A sad attempt at snark isn't likely to be actionable.

I have reviewed her decision and as it says in the very first post in the Moderation forum:

If you are not:

1) Bringing up a matter of concern with Moderation
2) Reporting a rules violation
3) Linking to a relevant rule or relevant post
4) Answering a report about yourself

do NOT post in moderation. We've gotten many, many, "in my opinion" posts and downright wrong non-mod rulings and they are just NOT HELPFUL.

We're going to start banning folks who can't just stay out unless they have something useful to say.

You're two cents were unhelpful and unnecessary in that moderation thread and I concur with her decision. If you have any further questions or complaints, they may be directed for further review by filing a GHR

As for the private thing, that is due to a standing rule to not accept appeals via TGs. The problem with TGs is that even for Moderators, we don't have an infinate box so they don't get loged with the system the way a GHR or a thread in the forum is. That's why we don't accept an appeal made via TG.

Now, various Moderators have their own personal standards about questions asked via TGs. Some will reply, some will not. I, personally, attempt to reply as long as the question is not for a Moderator action but for information. Other Mods do not. Of course, they're more popular and have a lot more TGs. My box usually has crickets chirping.
