Hello, dear mods new and old.

As you may have noticed, I have returned to the forums after a few years of being somewhat inactive. I just know the older mods missed my trouble making, and the new mods must have heard stories about it.

To begin, I shall tell you a story. In the beginning, there was no Gameplay forum. When we asked for our own gameplay forum, we were told to use the "NationStates" forum. So we did. En masse.

To put it lightly, the roleplayers there were quite unhappy with this. Long story short: we got our forum. Our very own Gameplay forum.
[violet] then decided the forum needed to evolve on it's own.

Soon, the roleplayers found their way to our brand new forum, using it for their OOC (but RP-related) threads. We complained, but the mods pointed at [violet]'s verdict, and thus..we were ignored.
A war broke loose, and the forum turned into complete chaos and anarchy, until!

Neutered Sputniks (bet you haven't heard that name in a long time) put his foot down, and kicked all the roleplayers out. We rejoiced! Gameplay for the Gameplayers! (why do I feel this sounds wrong somehow..)

And so the rules for the Gameplay forum were formed: it was for gameplay-related topics. So things that happen game-side and that have to do with the game mechanics and the politics related to that.

Lovely story, no?

Now I return, missing some of my compatriots from that time (Goobs, Qaaol!) and seeing some roleplay-related topics having sneaked into my beloved Gameplay forum.

Seal or logo. Now, I may be mistaken or gone too long, but I haen;t found a way to upload a seal or logo on my nation. Flags, yes. But a seal? A logo? Sounds like things used in a roleplay.
And reading the replies in that thread, I'm inclined to think I'm right. Especially with the currency images and the company logos and all that nonsense.

Same really with the maps and mapmakers. It has nothing to do with roleplay, there is no NS map, it's got nothing to do with the game itself...it's well, made up. Roleplay-y

Flags, I get. They're part of the game, you upload them on your nation, and presto.

Maps, seals, company logos, currency images etc...that's used for RP and doesn't belong in the Gameplay forum.

Thoughts?

I agree with you about the seals/logos/maps threads not being Gameplay related, and ideally I'd like to move them to somewhere more appropriate, but I'd need feedback from the other mods first about where they could go, before I do anything.

I'm thinking the logo/maps threads could fit in Factbooks (where they'd be seen by the people who need 'em), Storefronts/GE&T (as a commercial enterprise), or (desperation measure) Arts (as a display of artistry).

Not NS or II (sibling rivalry), though II already has some maps.

What about flags? They serve Gameplay and Roleplay. Y'wanna fight? Seems silly to have them in a different forum from the logos, since they're the same kind of make-me-one thread (which, I imagine, was the logic behind putting the others in the same place as flags in teh first place).

Sorry to jump in, but I'd like to point out that The Western Reaches thread, TWR Designs, is already in the GE&T forum, perhaps the rest could be moved that way?

I dunno... a lot of regions use maps and even link to them in their Region Description. I'd be inclined to let maps slide.

If it's just visuals, for whatever use, and people are used to having them in one, handy spot, because more than one group utilizes a good many of them ... why change it?

There's keeping RP out of Gameplay, which is fine and well. And then there's getting all 'purist' about it for no better reason than 'I want it this way'. (Yes, we do wubs the CG, regardless of opinions stated here about the forums and content, btw.)

I guess what I'm getting at is it doesn't seem terribly broken, so why try to 'fix' it? Though I do approve of the less cluttery master thread with updated links to resources to keep things cleaned up. In fact, if one kept it that way, one could link all image-based resources, regardless of what forum the main OP for said resource was, while keeping the reference thread in an area where people are familiar with looking for said resources.

Still, I feel that Gameplay is being used as a "trash" forum then, if you can't find a spot where it belongs, put it in Gameplay! We only use the flags. The other stuff I mentioned...we don't. Flags are used by roleplayers AND gameplayers. So by your reasoning...I'd say put it in a roleplay forum

I feel the need to add something, and please forgive me mods if this is viewed as spam, but, it seems to me that while these threads do indeed serve an OOC purpose, I.I is an IN character forum. I post this so that I may provide a solution:

An Out-of-Character forum.

YES! A novel concept indeed! A forum for all things OOC which relate to IC! In my opinion, this would solve the problem at the moment, and would solve others in the future. It would also keep the IC forums less cluttered too.

Well, leaving flags there makes sense; I'm sure we can agree on that. Logos, money, etc. well... I can see the argument for moving those to Factbooks. When they first went to Gameplay, we didn't have a Factbook forum.

OK, moved a load of the seal/logo/map threads to F&NI (and I'll TG the people running them to let them know). I've kept a crossover flags & seals thread in Gameplay, to annoy CG because it seems silly to move that one.

I'll continue to update the directory with any graphics threads I see posted in Gameplay. If graphics makers posting threads outside of Gameplay want their threads listed, they'll have to request it in the directory thread.

More likely someone who was around when the Gameplay forum was created (and as such before FaNI was created) and is slightly... disconcerted about how it's changed.

Crazy Girl didn't come out of nowhere. She's been around on the forums since pre-jolt if I remember correctly, and while she has a low post count in the new forums that means nothing.
