Despite past instances, I don't think it is bad. It should be noted that Sedge's new role on the site staff seems to involve less moderation and seems to be more behind the scenes management and team coordination: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=85133 .

While staff members can have multiple roles, Sedgistan is no longer listed under the section pertaining to "Moderation Team" in that thread. His position seems to be more of a behind the scenes administrative one now. (Unless there is something major I'm missing)

I appreciate that not everyone will be happy with every appointment, but I would like people to steer away from the drive-by slandering. We don't have a right to be liked or agreed with, but it's not great when someone offhandedly labels you as (say) a well-known eater of kittens.

We have a public process for reporting mods who eat kittens, and we report the findings back here, so everyone can see for themselves.

Slander implies it's false, while nearly every action I've seen from Sedge concerning the trans community points towards being transphobic at worst or just painfully ignorant at best. There's reason for the trans community on NS to be concerned or uncomfortable with the appointment.

Doesn't matter. Sedgistan should have been stood down then, he should be stood down now. As indignant as I may be toward [violet] demonstrating such blatant disrespect to the RP community to refer to it as "slander," this isn't the thread for it.

So, basically, what you consider to be petty, I consider to be wholly appropriate. That is all I will say because this is not the right place. If you really want to discuss this, shoot me a telegram. Don't drag it on.

Players like Dakota are posting in good faith. I say this with him in mind because I know him personally and am certain he has no plot to slander Sedgistan.

What's the context on the Sedgistan situation?
- Snowland / the Snowish Republic -

Snowland, officially the Snowish Republic, is a country located in two entire planets. Snowland is a communist country, with multiple political parties, but all being a different type of socialism. Snowland contains both humans and furries.

If you have any suggestions for what I could add to my factbooks, you can DM me what the suggestion is, and I'll see if I'll use it or not. No fascist nations allowed, not even if you don't believe in your nation's ideals.

Other account with Snowland as its name (currently dead): Snowland | This nation doesn't represent my views; I'm a dem-soc (the elect-socialists-type-way [not in the same way as some communist countries, don't ask me how I know I just get curious sometimes]).

Pythagosaurus seems to have been removed from the Administrators group but is still in the Global moderators group (despite his default group now being Registered users). Not sure if that is intentional or not.

He’s often curt and occasionally dismissive in his representation of the mod team. This has precipitated into multiple serious controversies which might have been mitigated had the mod team phrased its positions in slightly nicer terms.

Sedge ruled a while ago that “trans people are mentally ill” is not actionable and recently was involved in a tiny controversy after warning Koth that his saying “Cormac goes by they/them now” borders on posting-on-behalf-of-a-DOS. Players who already disliked Sedge are using this to argue that he’s also a transphobe.

Look to the signature of Vistulange above for information on another controversy - the Kraven situation.

Still, I hope I can serve as proof that one can be entirely aware of Sedge’s past fights with the NS community and still come out liking the guy.

This is correct - I will be doing very little moderating going forwards beyond occasional bits of game modding to keep in touch with the flow of things, or when there is a particularly compelling case for myself to get involved (e.g. supporting in emergency situations). This also includes stepping back from SC legality rulings.

Congrats to all, all well deserved, and glad to see the structure change as the site evolves. I especially like the focus on including various communities that aren't really represented - although P2TM is a glaring vacant spot, along with Arts and Fiction - assuming there is a community there but never really looked.

I'm amused that the group that complain about anything found something to complain about with a site staff restructure that likely won't affect them, but I'm not sure if I should be surprised. Never really had anything to do with Pyth, but does he get a badge on his nation when it's not CTEd for former admin?
As always, I'm representing myself.

P2TM is a work in progress for filling that role. If Giovenith hadn't retired, or Esternial been swallowed up by RL, either would have been a natural choice. A&F is sufficiently similar to NSG to group together, and our Community Lead for those forums (Arch) participates in A&F from time to time.

We don't actually have a "Retired Admin" badge, since there's only ever been one before Pyth ([dredd], who was only around for the very initial days), so Pyth has got the "Retired Mod" badge instead. Admins aren't usually allowed to retire, but perhaps one of them could code Pyth a unique badge (maybe with a dinousaur fossil) for the one long-serving admin who escaped the enclosure?

Also, my apologies for not bringing this up earlier, but does VH's role as Director of Content cover all non-forum UGC (including dispatches, maps, and so on; it would be unreasonable to expect him to have free reign over the entire forums) or only issues? And if it only covers issues, why is he not called the Director of Issues instead?

The issues team, and VH's role, covers more than just issues - there's all the site-generated nation page content, e.g. textual nation description, rankings, and the various pie charts. The team, and VH, don't cover purely player-generated content such as dispatches or maps.
