[Q] Privacy violation and regional census

Postby Republic of Mesque » Fri May 27, 2022 12:21 pm

Our region would like to conduct a census - which would include information such as age, country of origin, occupation.
The idea is to use an external platform (such as Google Forms) without email address collection.
After data is collected, the statistics would be published in the region RMB. Since we are collecting real world information and publishing it in the region, we are concerned if this breaks the Privacy Rules.
Please, any advice or referrence to the prohibition of this activity is appreciated.

Several mods have looked at this. We're trying to see the value of this, but it's evading us.

If it's a survey of only the three items listed (age, country of origin, occupation) organized by nation name, that's fine. I'm not seeing anything there that couldn't be gathered in a series of polls. If a player in a tiny country like Monaco or Vatican City chooses to exclude that particular datum, that would be the smart choice.

If you go beyond that by capturing real names, addresses, schools or workplaces, or any other Personally Identifiable Information (PII); that's definitely not OK. It's not OK to collect PII and it's definitely not OK to publish PII. Even information such as area codes, city names, or similar may provide clues to someone who wants to dox other players.
