Maybe re-read your own sentence, slowly. "They do matter just not as much as any other race" implies that all the other races matter more than them. Perhaps what you meant to say was more along the lines of, "They do matter just not any moreso than any other race," which would imply equality, but you are still responsible for what you actually wound up typing regardless.
