Moderators Paid $ - Poster Fees $. I have always wanted to discuss this, during the old Co UK Forum Days, the Moderators tried to get Payed $ for their work. There was a discussion that Posters should Pay $ a monthly fee to Participate and help the Moderators get Payed $ for their work? I strongly supported both options with my Posts on the Moderators Forum. Your feelings about the Moderators should not count on your Posts. At times I have strongly disagreed with their decisions and at times I have strongly agreed with their decisions, Sedgistan is right I deserved my one day ban for Spam, adding non related comments to my thank you post response on the Moderators Forum, I hope I have learned my lesson this time the hard way, Sedgistan did the right thing and I thank him for it. The Moderators do a lot of work as Moderators and are understaffed and they should be Payed $ for their work? The commercials that appear on NS that Pay $ for the site can Pay $ for their work?

We all accepted this position knowing that it was a volunteer gig and have no interest in being paid. Besides, the site does not make enough money to afford it even if we did. Everything you see here is running because Max and the gang want it to, not because it makes a profit.

Sounds like a recipe to kill NS stone cold dead. At the moment folk can use the store to contribute if they wish, but making it a condition of being here would make user numbers crash.

Paying the mods isn't an option. Besides the vast amounts of money needed (even on minimum wage), it would be a tremendous bureaucratic headache. From insurance to taxes.

Like I said I do not want this to turn into a job. I can do this on my own time without having to think about money. I can do this without worrying that I will get "fired." I can do this on my own time and at my own pace and can walk away when I get sick and tired of it.

Correct, if Mods get paid that means there are more restrictions on how much they have to be online, how to moderate and other stuff that mods want to avoid. They need freedom and they like Moderating NationStates for fun, not for money or getting “ torture “ because they don’t be online for some time,

The Nationstates moderators have never sought for modding NS to become a paid position. None of us are interested in the headaches that would come from making this a job, nor does the site make enough to pay a competitive wage. Max is also not interested in monetizing the site to the obnoxious extent that would be necessary to do so; NS has never been about making a profit.

I can only speak for Nationstates, we're all volunteers. I don't know how other sites handle their moderation, though most small sites rely on volunteers. You don't typically see paid moderation until you get to really large game companies or social media sites.

If we're talking payment, this turns into a job. My current contracting fee is $150/hr if I'm being contracted for a job; for you, I'll give a 33% discount.

Otherwise, yeah, I'll do this because I like the site and can contribute exactly as much as I feel I have spare time for.

I strongly disagree.
1. I am not going to share my real life personal information (e.g. credit card) just to play a browser game.
2. Many people who play NS are broke, including me.

A few things...

1. It would kill the forum, because most posters won't pay for the service. A dead forum isn't good for the game.
2. Making moderators employees would be more complicated than any value gained by mods from their theoretical wages.
3. Mods already make billions from the "'Special GA#2 exempt' WA militias".

I have to agree with Sarzonia on this one. Paying the mods would kill NS, as we don't have the income to keep track of everything that that would entail, and also, we do this on a volunteer basis already.

Asking to be a moderator is a good way to have your name put on the NO list. There is already an established method for people to suggest someone as a moderator.
