[Q] Expand the Moderation Team please!

Postby Zeffar » Sat Feb 27, 2021 1:49 pm

The inflow of spammers is just getting worse and worse and the numbers in the Mod Team clearly aren't sufficient enough to protect young viewers from accidentally viewing content they shouldn't ever see at all. That goes for everyone else above them. I hope the Moderation seriously considers beginning a selection of new mods to bring into the fold. So the site can be shielded at all times, instead of having a waiting period for a moderator to wake up and taking action. We need to protect the community from violators who wish to do us harm. I love this site and I don't want it to be shut down because of someone posting highly graphic content.

I agree, children shouldn't see certain things.

I appreciate the thought, but let's not overreact to a single moron who - against all evidence - wants you to believe he has any real impact on this site.

I propose that moderation establishes a squadron of specially selected and trusted posters with the power to mass delete posts and issue forum bans. Recent events have shown that they can no longer take minutes or even hours to respond when the minds of young forum members and browsers are at stake.
In 2021, Lord President George Fenwick lost re-election and sacked Munkchester. He and his son promptly escaped from community service in Sweden to international waters. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as slavers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the Fenwick Foundation.

Even if mods are online, it sometimes just takes them a couple minutes to notice a particular spammer. They may be be looking at another part of the site from where the spam is.

You(r former colleagues) should add more to the team then. But I really meant a temporary thing for the duration.

It may exist but I also think it would be appreciated by the community to have a faster response time and perhaps even consider implementing a bot that deletes graphic content. So we can stop the violation in tracks. I'm sure, players will be willing to donate money to see the program crafted and implemented.

A suggestion I am thinking of is a verification process for the forums, BUT as I was told, it would put off legitimate users and further complicate things.
Another idea that was passed around would be a slow mode / cooldown of sorts for first-timers on the forums, but it might not be as effective because if they are not posting anything due to the slow mode, they are indistinguishable from normal users.

-----

As far as I am concerned, even with a thousand mods walking around, you still have that lag time to respond and delete them, by the time someone would have already seen it. This is not a fault of the mods, and rather just the inherent nature of a series of actions to take.

I still like my first idea, but yes, it would unfortunately slow down and complicate things for those who are here for fun and not for... this. And of course, it's not a silver bullet.

Oh my gosh, I feel so sorry for you mods. I could not deal with the amount of nasty stuff I'm sure you guys have to deal with. Maybe we need a few more in here to catch em all before people like me see them and wish they were dead, also like me.

I respect your right to ruin your life, but I don't have to celebrate it

"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!"- Romans 1: 21-25

That's why I recommend adding Anti-Spam bots to the platform so we catch them and punish them without that lag time being an issue. Keep everyone safe and the site from ending up in an unthinkable scenario. Also, the bots could serve to protect the Mods from having to view the content as well and make their job somewhat easier.

Mods have you considered telling their parents what they have been up to

I mean this seriously btw. Surely you have some idea of who is behind this.

Would it not be possible to have a "pornspammer" option in the mod toolkit, where deleting the account simultaneously mass-moves their posts to the evidence locker?

Again, I appreciate the concern, but right now this is slowing Neutraligon and I down.

This is one moron who wants you to think he's more important than he actually is. Let's please rack up the easy kills now, and perhaps worry about it later.

But apologies for the passing moments where this idiocy is visible.

We don't neccesarily have to expand the mod team, we just need to make sure that non-mods know how to report spam, especially newer players who may not have realized that there is a way to do so yet.

Who?
Silvedania, the majestic nation.
NS Stats are mostly accurate except for a few things, like this nation is capitalist and the death penalty isn't in effect

News:All trade with Crabaiaia and Pikala has stopped as diplomats meet in Trenaka. Silvedanians are confused by Quentin Tarantulatino's new film, Seasonal Snackbox(This is a Bojack Horseman reference.) Weird song goes viral for making no sense.

There are pages of examples as to why this is not a good idea. One funny one was a school whose porn filter filtered out the mascot because the mascot was a big, hairy pussy. Which is to say a jaguar. Scunthorpe, too, could tell you of the downsides of using a machine to censor.

Buttbuttins are to be feared, after all, and clbuttic rock is still some darn good music.

Bots are notorious for removing the wrong content. We'd have to check their deletion logs extensively to see if they were killing the correct content. If anything, using bots would increase our workload.

Alternatively, ban the entire country from using your site. Poor NZ.

Jokes aside, while I support their idea, I am aware of the inherent flaws and that is also a reason why even big billion-dollar sites like Twitter or Facebook or YouTube cannot combat spam that effectively. Though then again, for a niche site like here, I think it would be fitting if we can have a bot that won't delete but move stuff to the Evidence Locker if there is a trigger either of 1) pictures being repeatedly spammed, or 2) the same post/content being posted over and over (like adbots). Moved to Evidence Locker means someone could fish back out a legit post if it was mistaken for spam.

But again, what Fris said. So do take my advice with a big grain of salt because I am simply suggesting things into the matter.

(On a side note, I don't want to minimod, so it would be helpful too if people just use the DOS thread, or a relevant megathread. Even funnier is when we had adspams and people would actually translate what they said. :P)
