Sure, they could be more consistently enforced. But no consistency whatsover is added by some "it's only bants" exception where the exact same words are actionable if said to one person, but not actionable if said to another.

And that would be in instances when a mod wasn't sure and could easily be dealt with either through TG's or in the Mod forum. There will be times when it would be blatantly obvious based upon the language used and the other person's reply.

Because there was a time where NSG offered a unique sort of dive into debate and discussion with a certain charm and character and realism to it that couldn't be found elsewhere online. However over the years from a combination of things it has gone from a place where I could actually learn things and interact with educated people who offered a wide variety of viewpoints on topics to little more than low effort shitposts that would be banned for trolling anywhere but get excused here. I'd like to try and get some of that old spark back if possible.

Also again, in the past we have tried to leave, certain users who I won't name followed and tried to cause real world repurcussions when we did.

That's not what the spirit of consistency is.

Consistency is not strictly enforcing the rules, but enforcing the rules in a way that makes sense.

So far, moderation seems to enforce the rules whimsically, not sensibly.

So yes, at the very least you are consistent, just not in what I would say is a good way.

Well you do that with informed and thoughtful argument. The "spark" of hostile words never did drive debate, more or less lax moderation wasn't a major factor either. In my opinion, it was the harsh cutting of post pyramids which destroyed good one-on-one debate and caused a free-for-all where posters can escape from a losing position but sandbagging for ONE post, or more if that doesn't work.

If it looks like rulebreaking to a passer-by, then they can report it. It doesn't matter, if it breaks a rule (even between friends) you will get dinged for it.

As someone who dipped his toes in the LWDT and didn't like it for basically the reasons it's now closed, I can't say I disagree with the decision. However, I do think the announcement was heavy-handed and could have been done with better engagement with the active posters in those threads.

Haha, I'm not obliged to answer your question. I did not claim the site belongs to me, I called it "my NSG" and I never said it wasn't just as much yours.

However, I probably will leave if the forum is going to become scattered with vile personal insults. I'll just give the place over to all of you, and go find a forum more strictly moderated.

Oh trust me I tried. Effortposts that were well thought out and paragraphs long with lots of sources just got ignored and met with one or two sentence shitpost trolling in response. Pretty much all of the good debaters and thinkers left NSG years ago or clustered in the LWDT and RWDT, which is why there's such hostility to this move by the team because it pretty much removes the last little bit of old NSG.

Yes they did bear such a grudge and we know exactly who did it too. The effect presumably was to drive us offline entirely via harassment but, well, that didn't quite work out. There's a quite funny tale about how things ended up working out actually given it backfired on them a fair bit.
