Depends on context. There's a difference between "you're a dick" and "you're acting like/being a dick", where the former is really just an insult aimed at the person, and the latter a (vulgar) criticism of their recent behaviour. Same as "you're an idiot" (clear flame) and "what you're doing/saying is idiotic" (not).
