I'm not sure whether offering cards avoids the policy...?

Could we get some clarity on the policy of using cards as prizes and incentives for completing tasks? I thought the commercialisation policy only applies to things with monetary value. This included stamps and site supporter status because they are purchased with money, however cards could only be created in-game. This ruling suggests a change in policy.

Many regions, eg The North Pacific, offer cards as an reward for joining the region, endorsing the delegate or voting. Is this no longer allowed?

Thanks

This has NEVER been allowed, on-site.

Hi,

Lamoni's and Farnhamia's posts directly contradict the response I received on December 25th, 2018 to a GHR I filed through this nation (GHR #246587). The response said:
A number of Moderators have reviewed your question, and concluded that given "trading" is implicit in a "trading card game," and that given cards have no potential for monetary value, trading them for in-game actions does not, by default, violate our monetization or commercialism policies.

Following receipt of this response, in March 2019, TNP began using trading cards as rewards for in-game actions in several varied ways (the card lottery is probably the best known one). It is also worth noting that at least two moderators (Luna Amore and Frisbeeteria) have participated in these programs.

Additionally, many regions have followed TNP's example and have developed, or are in the process of developing, their own card reward programs.

Can we get some clarification on this?

Can I also get clarification on favor for a favor in general? Cards aren't monetary, and giving them away seems like "if you do me this favor, I will card farm for you and send you this card I get". Are we not allowed to - for example - offer to tell someone our favorite animal if they give us the RGB code for their favorite color to use in flags?

We've discussed this - it wasn't clearly documented, which is why there have been some contradictory rulings. The one quoted by The Northern Light is the one we've agreed on, and that stands.

I've made a small update to the Expanded Rules on Commercialism to make this clear:

Note that parts of the game that are not Store purchases (e.g. Trading Cards) can be used as rewards or inducements.

Thank you for the clarification.
