I would like to reignite debate in a thread of mine that got quite thought provoking yet it has not had a new post in some time. It might be past the limit as its been about a month. Would it be grave digging to post a reply in it?

Depends on what the thread is and how much the reply adds to it. Go ahead and post what you wanted to say. Worst case scenario the thread gets locked. Best case scenario, the conversation revives and you have a nice conversation. Either way we won't warn you over posting in one old thread.
