The only reason he's a mod is because he's part of the same group of players that always becomes mods. There's really no other answer for it. Mallorea would never have been a popular option if this had been a public discussion.

Actually, Mallorea has no such record of flaming or trolling, so please do not claim otherwise. He is a rules abiding player, smart, sensible, and helpful. He has strongly held views, and isn't afraid to voice them - that's no bad thing. Certainly his gameplay perspective is a unique one amongst the mod team, and that was a factor in his appointment.

I'll note that I'm no great fan of AO, and never have been. I was the person that brought Mall up as a potential mod, and definitely did not do so on the basis of his membership of that region, or his GA alignment. I supported him because of the reasons I've given above and because I'm confident that he is capable of putting his views to one side when making rulings, the same as the rest of the mod team.

It's also worth pointing out that players were encouraged to send in their nominations, and yet only one managed to do so. If you strong views on who should be added to the mod team, you should've taken the opportunity to put them forward.

I think Mall would make an excellent mod. You just don't approve of his raiding. What is he supposed to be biased about? He's a forum mod. As for mods choosing people from their group, it might be true, it might not. I've got nothing to do with any of them besides Mall. So I'm going back to jealousy. Maybe you can go join the group you think they choose from and they'll pick you next.

Yes, destroying an entire region because you don't like the players within it, and then gloating about it in a Burn Book-esque forum in Antarctic Oasis where several members of the mod team have participated in immature ranting and insulting of players they don't like, is one reason why I don't think Mall is good mod material. Mods shouldn't be so petty.
