To use Arch as the example again (I always like making an example of Arch), when we went pith helmet hunting it wasn't due to Sports causing issues, but very much a problem of when something DID come up... no one had any idea what they were on about.

Sedge and CG speak GamePlay and while they moderate the rest of the site, they're invaluable when we encounter a knot in GamePlay and have no idea what's going on for example, or Ard with the WA. So a better question for you two mentors really is not if PtM is having troubles, but has it developed its own community and standards to the point where the normal RP mods would be lost should something happen?

If we have that kind of gap... it's something to think of.

Off the cuff, I would say not. Though we do have dynamics and parlance that some Mods might find a tad bit difficult to grasp if they were looking for substance, it shouldn't be an issue in regards to rulings. We are divergent from II, which is probably the closest parallel; that divergence isn't marked though, given our age. In time though, I could see the disconnect becoming an issue. Years though, not months. I'll give the topic more thought though.

G summed it up better than I.

The main difference I see, again, is that P2TM on the whole does not use IRCs much. Rather, we use OOCs for most things.

This is true.

Another truism is that that is all Night's fault.

Even so, again, not a major disconnect from II; merely a cultural adjustment.

Well, are the two of you going to nominate anyone or not?

There has to be someone who's both active in P2TM and living in Kyrgyzstan, surely.

But even if they're not in Kyrgyzstan, then you know how to make a nomination....

I'm not. I don't think we really need mods for P2TM.

Mentors, yes. But we're getting more coming, hopefully. *nudges Euro*

And if the mods need aid figuring out something in p2TM, they can ask said mentors.

I haven't really noticed the time zone thing as a major issue, personally, and I don't think we have a lack of mods.

Not as many as we used to. Since we added a larger international contingent of mods, there's usually at least one mod online during the US overnight period in case something urgent comes up. Back in the early days, most of us were based in the US, and we had little to no overnight coverage, and a loooooot of trolls pissed off that there were now mods and actual rules being enforced. I certainly spent many a late/all nighter trying to cover that shift when I wasn't in class/work back then.

This discussion got very interesting very quickly. 2 mentors from my beloved home, several mods, and a few other big posters before 4th page's middle.

1) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are underrepresented?
I honestly can't say much; If you were to separate my NS experience into concrete objects, then P2TM would be an oil tanker, General would be a bowl, F7 would be a plate, II would be a mug, A&F would be an empty pepper shaker, and all the others combined would be enough sewage to fill the mug and half the bowl. While I feel as if General, II, etc. have spawned more mods than P2TM when post, topic, player, age, etc. count are considered, I don't feel like its a big problem with the sort of, let's say, decentralization and local government that is found there.
2) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are accurately represented?
dittoe
3) What would adding more moderators, at this current point, help us accomplish in terms of adjustments to our adapting policy with the up and coming discussion threads?
More quality moderators are always good, I suppose. And discussion is great.
4) How do you feel about the Moderation forum? A bit of a before and after with the forum changes.
I like the addition of discussion, but I can't say I frequent it enough to have noticed much.
5) What would you say is our greatest strength? Greatest weakness?
I think... greatest strength, would be objectivity, yet humanity. The mods are much more professional and understanding than any I've encountered on any other site (though NS essentially being my internet life apart from HW, that doesn't say a lot. And greatest weakness... hell, I dunno. If I did, I would've exploited it for monetary gain long ago.
6) How do you feel about the most recent adaptation of The One-Stop Rules Shop?
Good, but still a bit lengthy and wordy. Some parts sorta repeat themselves, but it's good. Perhaps, though, just minor suggestion, make the dark red text lighter? Dark theme isn't great with it. :p
7) What is your favorite pizza topping?

Just an observation, but I feel as if NS is a lot less US-centric than most. I've only been around since the end of the world or thereabout, but with it being founded by an Australian in the city I live in, I like to internationalistic community.

Multiple current moderators were nominated by the player base. Euro, Blaat, and Farn, for example, were all player nominations.

Blaat and Farn were nominated as a direct result of the moderation staff specifically saying they were hiring, if I remember correctly.

Yes, but they were specifically nominated by the players after we openly invited player nominations.

They weren't appointed as part of a closed internal process, but were rather player nominations - which is the point I was making.

It's one of our dark spots, yes. Basically, between me and Arch there is no one (me in Netherlands, him in Dubai). And between Arch and East-Asia/Oceania (Nervun and the Australian/NZ mods) there is also no one.

If you're interested, I would encourage you to ask a couple of other people to nominate you on your behalf; recommendations from third parties would carry considerably more weight than a self-nomination.

Self-nominations carry zero weight in my opinion. It's one thing to think that you might be a good moderator if asked about it, it's another to start promoting yourself as that and shouting "pick me! pick me!". Which is how a self-nomination would across to me personally.

I do not see why I want to self nominate. I mean, as a moderator wannabe, it is the rights of people to vote or not vote me

Right.

People, vote for me as your moderator! I will give security over peace!

This sort of public campaign is also likely counterproductive.

What I would suggest is that, if interested, and if genuinely convinced that you'd be good at the role, you ask a couple of people familiar with your posting style and record to quietly and unobtrusively send in a nomination on your behalf.

It's one thing to make a quick post along the lines of "if nominated, I'd consider it" if your name spontaneously comes up - no harm done there - it's quite another to start openly campaigning in public.

We'd prefer a Man in the Shack to a Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Kudos if you get the full reference.

1) P2TM and II leaves some mods scratching their heads although the forums seem to handle their affairs pretty well.
2) General seems very well covered.
3) What about a liaison rather than an enforcer? This would be a Mod that excels at communication and spends more time de-ruffling feathers than policing. This person serves as a neutral mouthpiece. People can't claimed "Mod X is biased because three years ago he ruled against such-and-such". They aren't very vocal in General which also removes any feelings of them being biased on certain topics.
4) Are you sure this won't overwhelm the team?
5) The strength, as I've observed it, is the level of communication between Mods and the efforts made by that group as a whole. The weakness? You need a liaison.
6) Nathi recently posted (somewhere in Moderation) NS's stance on cybering, if memory serves. It would be a good idea to incorporate that into the OSRS?

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

1) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are underrepresented?

General. Always the festering cesspit that is NSG.

2) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are accurately represented?

II seems to be well represented, but the quality of posting there could be improved somewhat, overall. The others (except NSG) also seem to be adequately covered.

3) What would adding more moderators, at this current point, help us accomplish in terms of adjustments to our adapting policy with the up and coming discussion threads?

I don't think that we need more mods (except NSG dedicated mods) at this time, but maybe having NSG mentors would be a good idea, in order to help clean that place up.

4) How do you feel about the Moderation forum? A bit of a before and after with the forum changes.

I've never had any problems with the moderation forum. All my needs have been met everytime that i've needed to use it in the past. Can't imagine that that will change now.

5) What would you say is our greatest strength? Greatest weakness?

The mods that i've talked to seem to generally be friendly, and interested in how they could do the job better, so that is what i'd call your greatest strength. If the moderation staff had a "greatest weakness," i'd say that it might be the length of time since some of the moderation staff have been normal players on the site. Some things might simply get lost in translation from player to mod who has been in their modly post for too long. Age differences between players and mods would also play a part.

6) How do you feel about the most recent adaptation of The One-Stop Rules Shop?

I've had no problems with it to date.

7) What is your favorite pizza topping?

Canadian Bacon and Pineapple, though Pepperoni is a close second.

3) What about a liaison rather than an enforcer? This would be a Mod that excels at communication and spends more time de-ruffling feathers than policing. This person serves as a neutral mouthpiece. That's one reason why the mentors exist. Though, I think that we could have some dedicated NSG mentors, as well.

7) Pineapple.

I'm not sure watching would help; the Man in the Shack is in the original radio plays and one of the books, but not in the TV series or film. I think I have that right, anyway.

Pretty sure that counts as an automatic disqualification.

;)

Back on topic; I see no reason to suggest a Mod, as my area of purview is getting along excellently with the current staff. As my fellow Mentors are in accord about this (to my knowledge), I'm essentially just here to say "good job".
TG if you have questions about RP. If I don't know the answer, I know someone who does.

Quite the unofficial fellow. P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs.
