And have often given the benefit of the doubt where we can. It's nice when that's proven correct. It's disappointing when the player proves us wrong - but easy enough to correct it going forward.

You should have a special type of posting similar to redtext, but a different color so people can know when you're not posting officially.

I vote for the color green my flag is and that it be called greentext.

As I said ...

I already do that. And it hasn't been any sort of problem for players to understand that this is not my usual posting.

Most have some sort of 'thing' they do that sorts out when they're just posting, and when they're posting under mod hat. *** Redtext *** is a big indicator. Other's sign off as a mod. Others like myself, use color to denote. But there is generally some obvious pointer, with the exception of simply answering questions and other things that do not require a more firm 'voice'.

Perhaps, but it would potentially solve a potential problem.

Not really. I don't think that doing so is necessary at all. It's just a hassle.

Let's not create currently non-existent problems, and instead, focus on actual perceived problems. It's less hassle, and much more productive.

Maybe. The problem with the zones is that we're not on shift. I've been gone for a bit due to some real life issues that sapped all the time I normally had for NS out. Hopefully with the changing year I'll be back into oppressing the masses and the like.

Not saying that if we've got blank spots that we shouldn't get them filled mind you, just that even adding more Mods living in my area isn't going to automatically mean coverage unless we start up a set time and that really isn't going to be feasible.

I know, and undoubtedly, the admins should take that into account when they do the experiment. I'm just saying, it would help us out greatly if we had maybe one or two extra mods where they're needed most.

:

1) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are underrepresented?

Not quailfied to answer (which is not to say experiese in all aspects are not important, but i dont understand enough about the entire site to make an accurate comment)

2) What areas (II, General, PoTM, Gameplay, etc.) of the forum do you believe are accurately represented?

not qualified to answer

3) What would adding more moderators, at this current point, help us accomplish in terms of adjustments to our adapting policy with the up and coming discussion threads?

a. speed, i know moderation has previously expressed speed of response is not important. I strongly disagree, it is. The quicker something gets knocked down, either flamewars or gore spam, the better. It makes the site better for all users, if it were up to me, you would add two moderators immediately. Who i have no idea, but it should be moderation's choice not mine

b. Diversity in the moderator coverage and view point. Easier to have an available presence

4) How do you feel about the Moderation forum? A bit of a before and after with the forum changes.

I like the fact that moderation tries, perfection is not obtainable, but trying to improve is better than not trying to improve. Ultimately keeping the site positive benefits the user community as well as site ownership

5) What would you say is our greatest strength? Greatest weakness?

Strengths: your attempts at fairness, if anything i would like to see more red text not less. and your attempts at transparancy.
weaknesses: your failures at transparency. Once you say you are going to be transparent, failures in this area are magnified. I would almost say it would be better to say all decision making is closed, than say its open, and not have it be open.

6) How do you feel about the most recent adaptation of The One-Stop Rules Shop?

Don't know yet.
7) What is your favorite pizza topping?[/quote]

Garlic, peppers, and mushrooms

Fairness and more redtext...there's a chance it might be mutually contradictory. The mindset of "Dish out more redtext" lends itself almost to "Well, this is what the public expects. Gladiatorial mod actions."

While perhaps there are times that could use a mod or two more, please do note that with the current staff we've got folks spread out across Europe, Oceania, the US, and a few in other spots. This is because we have had the idea to try to limit the amount of time a mod's unavailable.

Is there a single chance that any nominations will even be considered?

Multiple current moderators were nominated by the player base. Euro, Blaat, and Farn, for example, were all player nominations.

I'm a combination of internal moderator discussion and player nomination. When it was decided that an NS Sports mod was needed, my name kept coming up independently both within the existing moderation team and within NS Sports player nominations, so the player nominations definitely had an important role in my selection.

As the current Winter Olympics show, I remain active in NS Sports.

On the timezone issue, we do actually have a major obvious gap covered by only a single mod. I'm not talking about the Pacific - unless we find someone in Kiribati, we're never really going to bridge the gap between western North America and Japan/NZ/eastern Australia.

No, I'm talking about the gap between Japan/NZ/eastern Australia and western Europe.

In all that space, there's just l'il ol me in Dubai.

So if anyone has any suggestions for a trusted active player in East Africa, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Central Asia and/or Siberia whom you think would make a really good mod, then by all means make it.

Please.

Again though, as I said before, I have no intent of modship, especially since I plan to retire from NS almost entirely when my roleplays end in two to three months.

Seriously though, P2TM is amusingly under-represented from a Mod standpoint, given our percentage of forum posts.

Not that we need Moderation. That's what we have Swith and Nightkill for; the bait, and the switch.

P2TM can moderate itself pretty well. As mentors, we don't do too much other than nudge people in the right direction. And only occasionally do issues get so out of hand that actual redtext needs to be whipped out, which is nice.

To clarify something though, Arch, while a member of Sports, isn't limited to sports. We kinda have ban hammer, will travel. What we are looking for isn't so much a what area of lawlessness needs addressing, but where are we as a group lacking knowledge. To use Arch as the example again (I always like making an example of Arch), when we went pith helmet hunting it wasn't due to Sports causing issues, but very much a problem of when something DID come up... no one had any idea what they were on about.

Sedge and CG speak GamePlay and while they moderate the rest of the site, they're invaluable when we encounter a knot in GamePlay and have no idea what's going on for example, or Ard with the WA. So a better question for you two mentors really is not if PtM is having troubles, but has it developed its own community and standards to the point where the normal RP mods would be lost should something happen?

If we have that kind of gap... it's something to think of.

Hmm. I don't think we have such a problem yet. We do definitely have our own community and standards, but said standards are generally higher than that of II.

I think that the II mods shouldn't be overly confused by P2TM. The major differences, rule-wise, between P2TM and II is that P2TM encourages making OOCs very informal and bordering on/actually being a chat thread.

If things diverge more, we'll see if we need mod representation. At the moment, I don't think I know anyone who could do the job well from our group.
Hi! I'm Khan, your local misanthropic Indian.

If you want a good rp, read this shit.
Tiami is cool.
Nat: Night's always in some bizarre state somewhere between "intoxicated enough to kill a hair metal lead singer" and "annoying Mormon missionary sober".

Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.

It's Nightkill. He's been there so long he rents out rooms to other people at a flat rate, but demands cash up front.

To clarify something though, Arch, while a member of Sports, isn't limited to sports. We kinda have ban hammer, will travel. Off the cuff, I would say not. Though we do have dynamics and parlance that some Mods might find a tad bit difficult to grasp if they were looking for substance, it shouldn't be an issue in regards to rulings. We are divergent from II, which is probably the closest parallel; that divergence isn't marked though, given our age. In time though, I could see the disconnect becoming an issue. Years though, not months. I'll give the topic more thought though.
TG if you have questions about RP. If I don't know the answer, I know someone who does.

Quite the unofficial fellow. P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs.
