Users here are generally running a wide variety of different screen resolutions, so one signature that's 8 lines and runs across the entire screen in 1680x1050 (which is what I regularly use) might suddenly jump to 10 lines in 1024x768. How do you admins take that into account when you make your decision on what is the sig line limit?

Yeah, your entry above was what had brought this up, because on my screen, it's about 4 lines including "Imsogone wrote" - it might be 6 at the most if you consider the parallel lines comprising the top and bottom of the quote box to be separate full lines. I'm simply wondering about this because it seems more based on different resolutions and screen sizes where a static "8 lines" doesn't really work.

The wide ranging grey area of differing screen resolutions is why folks won't get official warnings for having an oversized sig. We sorta have to eyeball it, and since I generally am the one that handles sig size complaints, I use this screen resolution data and my own resolution (1280x1024) as a general measuring stick, since mine is at the "low" end of the "Higher" resolution category.

It is my understanding that yes, quote boxes are counted thusly:
1st line - box
2nd line - "XYZ wrote"
whatever lines the actual post is
last line - box

Also, I'd just like to ask a mod reconfirm - is my memory correct that spoiler boxes count as two lines? That is my uderstading and how I count when I report.

If done right, they can be squeezed into a single line. It's basically the difference between this:
