A protest against the moderators of this forum.

Postby Ikarouss » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:38 pm

Recently, a moderator locked my thread despite the fact that it violated no rules. I've had this happen to me and seen it happen to others countless times. The moderators lock any thread they disagree with no matter whether it violates the rules or not. I've also seen moderators break their own rules many times. Anyone who thinks that the moderators run this forum fairly are deluding themselves.

These posts may have been initiated before I moved this thread from NSG to Moderation, but take note that we will not tolerate any more of these snark attacks now that it's here.

I'm not a mod, but there are a few problems I see with this, and hopefully my alerting you to them can help the moderator who reviews this issue to understand your complaint.

1. You need to link to the thread. Otherwise, we can only speculate on what thread you're talking about. It's not a good use of time for moderators, who are already volunteering to do unpaid work for all of us. Link to the thread.

2. You were recently reported for your hit-and-run OPs on controversial topics, which could potentially be seen as trolling or flamebaiting (not my words). I don't think there's been a ruling, but one possibility is that some mod agreed with that interpretation or simply wanted to freeze it until it could be reviewed by someone else.

3. You falsely imply that only threads which violate rules can be locked. Whether or not you violated any rules in the OP is not necessarily relevant; AIUI, threads are often locked for other reasons. These could include: rules violations by other participants; temporary cool-down measure; removing the potential for [further] rule-breaking in a heated discussion that has been reported, while other mods review it; the thread might have been deemed to duplicate some other extant thread; or any other reason relevant to conducting mod business. It may even have nothing to do with you.

4. Plenty of people disagree with mods and don't have their threads locked.

Here's a wild assumption: the OP thought he would find fertile lands for his personal opinions and ideas here, but his perceived NationStates career seems to have been less of a success than he expected. That hurts, of course. Oh, how it hurts!

At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

This summed up my feelings on the matter already.

And add to "takes to the *cough* streets to protest the tyranny of the moderators on a forum he apparently just joined"

It's a walking talking example of the absurdity of this "trollnaming" rule.

I'm talking about the MODERATORS. I don't care whether people disagree with me or not, but because moderators you can't even voice your opinion.

Considering that you've only gotten one of your threads locked, and this one in particular, where you're voicing your opinion that the mods suck, remains open...

You have no case. Not by any legitimate measure.

Has the thread you're referring to actually been deleted? If not, all what has been written can still be read. On many online forums moderators tend to close down threads to avoid more trouble if they allow those threads to stay active. And I'm pretty sure this place would be a digital hellhole without our moderators, so I'm in full support of them.

Your...latest topics that I've seen reported to Moderation, involved Flamebait, Troll Baiting, Copy & Paste, were in the wrong forum, had become heavily off topic and so on and so forth.

If you have an objection to a particular thread being locked, you should link to that thread and ask for a reconsideration, this is known as an appeal. What you should not do is spam other forums about the moderators.

I think I should link to the One Stop rules just for convenience. Final Thoughts.

Please remember that your being here is not a right of public access, you are being invited effectively into someone else's home. The rules are their as guidelines and if the hosts don't like the content, they don't have to tolerate it. "This isn't a democracy" Max Barry.

The OP was hoping to use his elite copy & paste techniques in order to warn us about the death and destruction of the white race ad infinitum, but apparently our moderators just won't allow it.

One topic is quite enough. Each topic is supposed to be unique. As the topics have been 'Copy & Pasta' as the mods like to call it, from other articles over the internet they infringe on copyright abuse and must be locked and disposed of immediately. However, the point the mods are making is that, the topic subject itself is not the problem, it a) the copy pasta b) the flaming c) the off topicness of the thread as it descends into chaos.

Posting past a thread that has been locked is also a violation of the rules. The moderators are being highly lenient.

I believe you need to read these rules before posting in the Moderation forum again. One Stop Rules specifically regarding spamming moderation.

I was the moderator who locked the thread.

This was the thread: viewtopic.php?p=11826431#p11826431

I don't believe that further comment is necessary here.

Ikarouss is free to appeal a moderation decision via the normal channels - which would be by filing a getting help request.
