[Q] Why are some threads deleted while others locked?

I've noticed that sometimes, particularly on F7, some threads get deleted after they're locked while others are kept around. This implies moderation has a mechanism for deleting threads.

Why is this applied so inconsistently, then? Obviously deleting an adbot thread is well and good if that adbot's posts are the only ones there. Then you have people replying to obvious trolls or adbots or spam. The hundreds of threads going back years where one lost NSer replied "what!!!!!!!" to an obvious spammer implies otherwise.

So what gives? Why do those threads stay up while others get deleted?

Edit: To clarify, no, I am not talking about the autopruning. That at least makes sense. Yet I've seen threads get deleted minutes after they're locked.

Are you talking about the F7 week-experation thing?

For context: if an F7 thread is left inactive for a week, it automatically gets deleted.

I can only really speak for myself here:
- I outright delete threads when it is adspam
- I move threads to the evidence locker when there is substantial rulebreaking content in the thread and it cannot remain in the public eye (adult content violations, illegal activities violations)
- I leave threads where they are but locked when there is substantial rulebreaking content in the thread and it doesn't matter if it stays in public or not

When the thread can stay in public, it means I don't have to send a VOM telegram to the poster to tell them they were warned and for what. They can just see my post.
