News feed

Postby Liberiteria » Sun Oct 16, 2011 12:14 pm

The news feeds in my nation have never worked properly. When I click the subscribe button, all I get is a bunch of computer coding. How do I fix this?

Some changes were made to the WA Census:

1. "Laxest Drug Laws" is now called "Highest Drug Use".

2. "Largest Retail Sector" became "Largest Retail Industry".

3. "Most Liberal" was renamed to "Most Extensive Civil Rights".

I want to look cool and have a signature. How do I make one?

Hello, I have a problem with my regions WA delegate. I'd like to elect a new one but I am unsure of how elections or endorsements are done. How to I overthrow our current leader?

FAQ wrote:What's a Regional Delegate?

The nation with the most endorsements in each region at the time of the daily tally is automatically elected Regional Delegate.

Usually, a Delegate is the region's administrator. She can access Regional Control to alter the region's World Factbook Entry, set a password, and eject other nations. (In regions with a Founder, though, the Founder may override Delegate decisions and even deny the Delegate access to administrative powers.)

A Delegate also represents the region before the World Assembly. She can review upcoming proposals for legislation and promote those she approves. When legislation reaches the resolution voting floor, she wields additional voting power over regular WA members: 1 extra vote for each endorsement. Delegates of large regions therefore have considerable influence over whether resolutions pass or fail.

A nation must have at least one endorsement to be elected Regional Delegate.

EDIT: Looks like you've posted this question before here, and it was split into a separate thread by a moderator, because technical questions don't actually go here; each gets its own thread.

I suggest adding "How do I make a signature?", since that seems to become a reoccurring question in both Technical and elsewhere, so I've noticed.

Already suggested by Fris, but it has now been added into the Forum section of the FAQ. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm thinking I'm going to add an Advanced Coding section to this FAQ for some of the more complicated BBCode stuff. (Inspired as I was writing this post about using float-tags and alignment-tags in signatures to help condense line counts.)

Current plans for inclusion are (obviously) the float left and right tags. I'll probably move the list tags and proposal tags (and perhaps the non-basic spoiler coding) to this section as well.

I can include superscript and subscript and/or table coding - although, admittedly, table coding is a nightmare to do and/or explain because there's so many little tags that you need for each and every cell and row. I can include background color coding, how to write code tags, box tags, and probably bookmark tags as well. (Bookmarks are the <a name="something"> HTML coding that allows you to jump to page.html#something portion of the page - i.e. in the middle of a post, versus only being able to jump to the beginning of a post.) I'm hoping to someday (eventually, when I have a load of free time) work on putting bookmarks into this document so that I can have specific links to each question/answer. But that's been on my "list" ever since I created this baby (and found that coding in the Custom BBCodes thread of Reppy's), so .... not going to happen anytime soon.

If there's any other coding you're wondering about or would like a walkthrough on, please let me know, so I can add it to my list. (Same goes if there's something that I referenced above that you definitely want included or don't think is necessary to include.)

Thanks for the help & suggestions!

Yes please.

On an unrelated note, is there a way to make the [pre] tag word-wrap? I know that alignment works on preformatted text, but text scrolls instead of wraps, making it annoying if I want to use it in any in-character communications posts.

Also, is there the possibility of a BBCode suppression tag, where things inside it aren't parsed as BBCode? There are occasions when I'd like to present code inline without disabling BBCode for the entire post. So in other words, not the [code] tag.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'd submit that question into Reppy's BBCode post in this forum, and hopefully she (or someone else who's more knowledgable than I) can give you a good answer on that. I've never used the [pre] tag, so I don't think that'll be included. If you want to write something up about the [pre]tag, I'd be happy to include, though, and give you credit. :)

(Also: would using the align=justify tag work with the pre-text? I doubt it, but perhaps worth a try if you haven't done that already?)

Again, I'm not aware of one off-hand - although something in my brain tells me YES ... I just can't remember what it is. I'd move that into the BBCode post too for an answer. :)

Thanks for the response & enthusiasm!

I have a question. How does one place images together? As in let's say, two coats of arms from two seperate nations together on the same plane.
Imperium Sidhicum wrote:So, uh... Is this another one of those threads where everyone is supposed to feel outraged and circle-jerk in agreement of how injust and terrible the described incident is?

Because if it is, I'm probably going to say something mean and contrary just to contradict the majority.

The Greater Aryan Race wrote:I have a question. How does one place images together? As in let's say, two coats of arms from two seperate nations together on the same plane.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "together" but provided the images aren't overly large - you can put multiple images on one line.

Code: Select all
[img]http://test256.free.fr/UN%20Cards/crad48tr.png[/img][img]http://test256.free.fr/UN%20Cards/crad44on.png[/img]

ImageImage

If you want to center the images:
Code: Select all
[align=center][img]http://test256.free.fr/UN%20Cards/crad48tr.png[/img][img]http://test256.free.fr/UN%20Cards/crad44on.png[/img][/align]

ImageImage

You can also use the float tags to make the images to to separate sides of the board, but ... that gets more complicated. (If you're interested in knowing more about that, let me know, and I can get into that, but more of those details should be coming with the Advance BBCoding section of the Tech FAQ.)

And, of course, in the above coding, you want to input your OWN image url for the ones I used. A generic multiple image code (non-centered) would be as follows:
Code: Select all
[img]http://www.IMAGEONE.com/IMAGEONE.jpg[/img][img]http://www.IMAGETWO.com/IMAGETWO.jpg[/img]

Another item that I'm planning to include with my next rewrite just came up in a Moderation thread. I'm posting it here, so I don't forget about it.

Frisbeeteria wrote:I changed the poll's expiration date from 16 days to 1 day. It appears to me as if that did it, as I saw the final poll and I hadn't voted. As OP, you might have had that option yourself, and worth noting in your tech notebook if you can.

And on that same note, I haven't had any running "polls" as of late in any of the threads that I'm OP on. If someone is able to confirm whether the expiration date is editable by the OP, I'd certainly appreciate it, to be certain that I'm providing accurate information within this FAQ.

Awesome, thanks, Hack! :)

I wonder if you could reopen a closed timed poll by extending the duration. Wanna use that same puppet / thread and give that a try?

Further note for reference/future FAQ editing: [violet] has updated/amended the flag-resizing policy, with more details to be found here.

EDIT: I also just made a semi-technical sig coding post here in Reppy's Sig Workshop. This is along the lines of what I'm looking to edit into this post at some point, but - certainly - if there are other questions or more details that are required, please let me know there or here, so I can work with that.

EDIT2: And here is a more detailed post on how to code tables that I'll at least link/reference in here, if nothing else.

Another coding note that I'll be adding in when I next have enough time off of work to update this bad boy ...

Formatting lists (with BBcode) with multiple levels ...
Code: Select all
[list=I][*]Line One
[list=A][*]Point A
[list=1][*]Subpoint 1
[list=a][*]Detail a
[list=i][*]Item i
[*]item ii[/list]
[*]Detail b[/list]
[*]Subpoint 2[/list]
[*]Point B[/list]
[list=1][*]Subpoint 1
[list=a][*]Detail a
[list=i][*]Item i
[*]item ii[/list]
[*]Detail b[/list]
[*]Subpoint 2[/list]
[*]Line Two[/list]

  1. Line One
    1. Point A
      1. Subpoint 1
        1. Detail a
          1. Item i
          2. item ii
        2. Detail b
      2. Subpoint 2
    2. Point B
    1. Subpoint 1
      1. Detail a
        1. Item i
        2. item ii
      2. Detail b
    2. Subpoint 2
  2. Line Two

(It obviously looks better if you have actual content rather than just my placeholder text.)
