"Too common words"

Postby Extreme Ironing » Wed Jul 15, 2009 1:46 pm

It seems the 'search in this thread' function hates me. Whenever I try a word it tells me it's "too common". I'm beginning to think it suspects I'm just not good enough for this forum. Please release us from this elitist oppression and tell us what words are not worthy for Search. Or how 'people' and 'single' are too common for a thread less than 10 pages in length?

There is also dozens if not hundreds of other threads that use those words.

"There are also dozens..."

I'm not sure what relevance this has to what I've asked.

Why are you using the search function to find 'people' and 'single', anyways? CTRL+F, my friend.

I do agree this is a bit annoying though. When you're trying to search a phrase and it contains "common" words the search throws out the common words and you're left with one word which may also be fairly common, essentially making the search impossible.

Clearly, this is a dating site; did NationDates pass you by?

I find it annoying having to load up multiple pages worth and use a browser search, when I should be able to use the forum search in one.

Yeah, exactly. Excluding things like 'the', 'and', 'it' is expected, but less ubiquitous words, especially nouns, should really be searchable.

Search is the single most taxing thing the forum software does, especially as we grow, so we do need to be somewhat strict here. But I believe the next version of phpBB3 will contain a new search engine, which will hopefully allow faster searching with broader terms.
