Nation Summary

Postby Flammable Ice » Thu May 14, 2009 1:14 pm

I think it would be nice if it were possible to add a paragraph of custom text to a nation's description. 300-500 characters should probably be adequate. Considering that flags can be up to 10 KB, a few characters of text would be small by comparison (500 chars in unicode would be 1 KB, I think).

It might be worth making this a bonus, the same way custom nation titles are - you could make it available once a nation's population reaches a threshold value.

Edit: I should probably add that, if this is not possible, I will probably understand the technical reasons, but it seems to me a matter of adding a new database table, a little extra display code and, if the pop. check is used, some simple logic.

Yeah a user factbook was brought up in the NS World Adjustment Thread (actually just about EVERYTHING was... hehehe). I'd also like to be able to put small logos and/or links to communities a nation is a part of in the user factbook.

I understand this has some of the forums players, particularly people in II, at times frustrated. But I'd say the factbook wouldn't be nearly large enough to replace the nation roleplaying that goes on in II, and might actually inspire some people who wouldn't of normally roleplayed to try it out after doing their factbook. And on that note ... one must remember that only a portion of NS is forum-based, and we just got a new forum which is awesome... so a couple of bones have to be thrown at the game community's general direction as well (NS BBCode is a pretty big bone though. ;) ).

I'd say this, along with "Regional Issues", w00t!, mass telegrams, and possibly passwords that degrade influence are the biggest heavyweight changes that could be implemented without hurting atleast one of the many different communities in NS.

This is very high up the To-Do list.

Shit, either I need to stop drinking my precious iced tea while reading your posts, or you need to stop 'playing with my emotions'! :D

This sounds lovely...

I just thought it would be simpler/prettier if their was a possibility to post links on your nations page. I mean searching through the nation's factbook section of the forum is a possibility but takes some rather intense desire to find the fluff regarding a nation... Allowing for a few links below the trophies would allow a player to render such factbooks and articles on his nation more accessible and make for role-playing to be easier as you have easy access to important fluff of other players. A maximum of links might be needed and the display would probably be painful to design (or it could be really simple but accept html tags), but I think it would be over-all rather simple to implement, and a big plus for players who write down all of their army's unit down to the platoons only to see it be on the 5th page of that forum's section two days later.

I would say this would probably be easier than a complete entry, as it requires less space (both visually and databasely)..

I quickly skimmed this section to see if this had been proposed and this thread seemed to be approriate... Sorry if reviving old threads is disliked or if the subject has known some other form of evolution.
