Force trimming of quote pyramids

The current state of quote pyramids is ridiculous. They frequently grow to the point where they take up at least one screen and possibly a second after scrolling down. Could we get it so that extraneous quotes are trimmed off? Perhaps allow up to two quotes, meaning that you could quote someone's words and their quote, but no further.

e.g.:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus aliquam viverra tortor, vel rhoncus elit mattis elementum. Maecenas lobortis gravida dolor, sit amet suscipit dui pretium vitae. Nullam pharetra convallis mattis. Sed nibh mi, lacinia nec facilisis ut, viverra nec nibh. Donec iaculis sem eget elit molestie eleifend. Morbi id nisi nunc, in dapibus nunc. Pellentesque sollicitudin mollis elit in sodales. Aenean sed ligula orci. Mauris auctor tellus ut sem dapibus at interdum turpis ultricies. Vivamus faucibus, ipsum sed posuere semper, dui leo faucibus urna, ut facilisis enim sem sed tellus.

I'd second this. Although maybe more then two, say three tops. The admins can fix it pretty easily too, it's a setting on phpbb3 boards.

It was set up that way, but I believe it was changed because it was annoying to manually remove the old quotes.

Sorry if that wasn't too clear, the mod's description was "This MOD automatically removes quotes that are nested deeper than allowed by the ACP setting (default 3), instead of giving an error."

At the least it would be good for F7, people there love the Aztecs or something and the things they quote are often only a couple of words.

It'll remind people that they can only nest a certain number and eventually people will stop trying to do it. The only difference is that mod allows people to nest as many as they want, then auto trims it for them rather then making them do the work.

Also I kind of like 3 as the max nested. As you can see from my post, 3 let me quote the original text, my question, and a clarification, to which I can then respond

Manually trimming quote pyramids is a pain in the ass, which is why most people don't do it or they just slap it all under a spoiler tag. What good does it do to piss people off by giving them an error until they trim a stupid quote pyramid? It should be automatically done.

If it "pisses them off" then they won't do it. Installing a mod is just more work for the admins to maintain, to make sure it doesn't cause any bugs in the first place, to make sure it works with any other mods we have installed (I don't know if we do or don't), to make sure that every time it updates, it doesn't break the forums (or that it updates at all) and that it doesn't introduce any security vulnerabilities into the forums.

Using the already built in ACP option doesn't need any of this, doesn't require any work, and one way or another, people will stop having massive quote pyramids, either because they manually trim it, or just don't do quote pyramids at all.

I remember when it was set like this... Going through the post you were quoting to remove the oldest quote of EVERY post you made was so annoying.
