The problem is that the board ACP doesn't have a way to prohibit that specific tag in sigs. The options are pretty much "Disable the img tag in sigs" or "disable ALL BBCodes in sigs." Folks were using the float tag to get around the system block on image tags in sigs... so removing the float tag for now seemed the lesser of two evils in dealing with the loophole.

I figured that, but if you have the float tag not automatically insert an image, it should fix the problem. Using the second code I provided, users would have to do [float=right][img]url[/img][/float] to float an image, and the signature filter would be able to catch the 'img' tag and wouldn't show the image.

Hrm... I'll have to poke around with that variation.
Played with, tested, and verified to be sig-proof! Float is back and can't be used to sneak images into sigs anymore :D

Thanks for the kick in the right direction, Glen-Rhodes; you've been credited in the first post for the help :)

Could we have a [pre] code, producing the eponymous HTML element, styled something like this?
Code: Select all
overflow: scroll; background-color: #FFFFFF; border: 1px solid #D8D8D8; padding: 3px

This would be something similar to [code] that could be used for preformatted text that isn’t really code (such as league tables for us nssport-ers), wouldn’t have the header claiming that it’s code, and could have BBCode within it (so we can go back to making our tables all fancy-like :p ).

Bah, I guess my CSS is rusty—can that be changed to overflow: auto instead of overflow: scroll?

Many thanks!

I'm having a littletrouble with the table code. In this post, can someone tell me why there's such a big gap between the table and the text above it?

It should be fixed now... unlike HTML which can do fine with each <tr> tag on a new line, the BBCode version counts all those spaces and translates the new lines to empty lines above the table.

I'd suggest typing up any BBCode tables in something like Notepad so you can make sure it's all in right, and then put it all onto a single line to copy and paste into the forum reply box. T'is annoying, and something I didn't realize the BBCode would do. *scoots to append the first post with this info*

EDIT: Ur... looking again, I might have broken one or two color tags or something in the process :oops:

Excellent, thanks for that - I'll try and remember that in future. I found the broken color tag so it's all good now.

I apologise if this has already been raised, or if it is not possible. Is there any chance of a [noparse] tag, which prevents BBCode being rendered? It proved a helpful addition to the Jolt forums.

Hey Reppy
I was going through the phpBB Help board and I ran across this interesting code. How about being able for people to create an one line indent for the paragraphs? I edited the code a little and came up with this...

For the BBCode
Code: Select all
[Tab={NUMBER}]{TEXT}[/Tab]

For the HTML Replacement
Code: Select all
<span style="margin-left: {NUMBER}px;">{TEXT}</span>

This way i can enter a big block of text and it will indent the first line. See, I can find some good stuff if I loo for it. Now I wonder if it will catch on with anyone else. hah

Any way the font can be changed? As in,
Code: Select all
[FONT=Calibri]{TEXT}[/FONT]

Well, fonts are tricky because they aren't necessarily universal; a font you have on your machine might not be a very common thing and the browser may not render the text correctly for someone who doesn't have it. And creating a text selector drop-down list of common fonts is beyond what I can do via the forum's 'create new BBCode' function. We might need some modification for the forum to add that function, sorry =/

Perhaps I can help? :) I don't know how much access you have, but there is a way of creating a font selector through editing the template files. I can't remember the URL of the page, but a while ago I found through Google an easy way of implementing it.

Here's the guide, from what I can remember:
In styles/the_ns_forum_style_dir/templates/posting_buttons.html find:
Code: Select all
   <select name="addbbcode20" onchange="bbfontstyle('[size=' + this.form.addbbcode20.options[this.form.addbbcode20.selectedIndex].value + ']', '[/size]');this.form.addbbcode20.selectedIndex = 2;" title="{L_BBCODE_F_HELP}">
      <option value="50">{L_FONT_TINY}</option>
      <option value="85">{L_FONT_SMALL}</option>
      <option value="100" selected="selected">{L_FONT_NORMAL}</option>
      <option value="150">{L_FONT_LARGE}</option>
      <option value="200">{L_FONT_HUGE}</option>
   </select>

After that, add this code (edit the options for whichever fonts you want to be available; this is just copied from my old forum's files):
Code: Select all
   <select name="addbbcode22" onchange="bbfontstyle('[font=' + this.options[this.selectedIndex].value + ']', '[/font]');this.selectedIndex = 0;" title="Font type: [font=Arial]Your Text[/font]">
      <option value="Arial" selected="selected">Arial</option>
      <option value="Times New Roman">Times New Roman</option>
      <option value="Courier">Courier</option>
      <option value="Trebuchet MS">Trebuchet MS</option>
      <option value="Verdana">Verdana</option>
      <option value="Georgia">Georgia</option>
   </select>

Then add the [font] BBCode using this, making sure the button isn't displayed on the posting page:
Code: Select all
[font={SIMPLETEXT}]{TEXT}[/font]
HTML:
<span style="font-family: {SIMPLETEXT};">{TEXT}</span>

Then, just refresh the forum's cache from the ACP.

Also, Rep is correct that not all fonts are universal. Calibri is not one of those universal fonts. This page has a list of the universal fonts.

Alas, I haven't the access to edit templates and such like that. I'm just given admin access to the forum to handle stuff like adding new mods and all that so that the techie types don't get bogged down :p

It would probably require [violet] or Pyth to edit the templates to add it.

Is there something wrong with [table] or am I using it wrong?

In this thread > viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8303

I seem to be unable to use [table] without having the table pop at the bottom of page, with lots of unwanted whitespace.

That's a problem somebody else had, too. Unlike HTML, where you can put every <tr> and <td> on a new line, phpBB renders those new lines and puts them all ahead of the table itself. Easy to fix, just put the entire table code on a single line.

I don't know if this has been addressed or not, but perhaps an image BBCode that allows you set the dimensions of the image?
