How to get official mod ruling on a script's legal status?

Postby The Chinese Soviet » Mon May 29, 2023 11:06 am

Is there any formal process for users to check if scripts are legal? I don't want to use a script I just made and then get puppetswept afterwards after finding out its illegal, even though I try my best to follow the scripting guidelines.

One of the scripts I am testing is closed source, so I'm not inclined to share it here unless the mods/admins demand me to do so. I have made efforts to ensure legality, but I was recommended to ask here to be on the safe side instead of fucking around/finding out.

We don't provide official legality checks. If you open-source a script, you may receive community review by posting it here.

There is no formal process to do so. Informally, you can ask if somebody else would review your code and check if everything checks out. Sometimes, individuals from staff may be willing to do that, but anything they sign off on in that moment won't be an official "this script is legal" but rather a "I didn't see anything illegal when looking over it".

That all being said, you're not going to get puppetswept for a small mistake. Our policy on this is outlined here. If you're only using the API, it's very hard to get in trouble or do something illegal.

(EDIT: Argh, and of COURSE Aav snipes me :P )
