They changed out the server disk and everything blew up. Should be up within the next few weeks from what I know/what the website staff have said.

The problem there is one of copyright. Loads of players use copyrighted material for their flags, so us selling print-on-demand merch with those flags would open us up to all sorts of problems.

Except for me. I never use copyrighted material for my flags. Every flag that I use are my own original designs.

Hello everyone,

Due to some much-needed hardware changes (replacing an end-of-life drive), the game will be down for a few hours starting at 0600 Eastern Time (New York City time), most likely on Thursday December 15th but possibly a later date some time between December 20th and 24th. It will likely be down for a few hours, but hopefully not longer. The forums will remain up, but as per usual, you will not be able to log in, anyone logged in already will remain so until the expiration of their session.

Update: We will be offline for approx 2 hours starting today Friday Dec 24th at 12:00AM PST. Click here for your local time.

Update #2: As per the notice on the site:

NationStates is closed over Christmas because the database server blew up and it will take forever to restore everything from backup. We aim to be back online by the end of the year.

The forums are currently online, and we will keep things that way if possible.

Rebuilding... we're hopeful of getting back online without significant data loss. The timer for nations ceasing to exist due to inactivity has been kicked back from 28 days to 45 days. Thanks for the well wishes & all the best for the holidays!

No reliable ETA yet on when we'll be back, will be at least a few more days.

There is some LIVE admin action going on at present (staff Discord channel only, but there's an audience of several curious mods) with multiple admins working on fixing outstanding issues.

Damn this is awful. I hope the damage isn’t too well severe although the thought of all this tech stuff scares me. I wish the best of luck on the admin team to getting this done quickly and without any major loss in data and I salute all of your efforts.

Do we have a general idea how bad the data rollbacks will be?
