The entire NationStates world then promptly restarts like what happens in the Matrix. Nobody in this stimulated universe of his game knows about what happened a century ago. They return to normal functioning until Max Barry's phone runs out of battery again.

I think the best way to help the site out would to be to partner with custom ink or something and you could get X nation's flag on a shirt/mug.

The problem there is one of copyright. Loads of players use copyrighted material for their flags, so us selling print-on-demand merch with those flags would open us up to all sorts of problems.

Using zfs or mdadm as a backend for storage? I took note that the site was going to be down to replace a drive on the database server. Did you lose another drive during resilvering? If so, thank god for backups.

You couldn't sell X Nation's flag, but you could sell the Ex-Nation flag, no? I would definitely buy a t-shirt with the Ex-Nation flag on it.

Yeah I really don't get why some people think having a paid staff member or paid staff members would have prevented this or made it faster to fix when paid employees also deserve off time for holidays.

That's a holiday in Canada. I don't celebrate it or living Canada but, I love football (soccer), and the English League plays their matchday today as a special event.

As one of those friends who has played with Novo for over ten years, I would also have been reluctant to pay to start my NS nation. I adore my NS friends, and I never would have met them had I had to subscribe to the site.
