Hello everyone,

Due to some much-needed hardware changes (replacing an end-of-life drive), the game will be down for a few hours starting at 0600 Eastern Time (New York City time), most likely on Thursday December 15th but possibly a later date some time between December 20th and 24th. It will likely be down for a few hours, but hopefully not longer. The forums will remain up, but as per usual, you will not be able to log in, anyone logged in already will remain so until the expiration of their session.

Update: We will be offline for approx 2 hours starting today Friday Dec 24th at 12:00AM PST. Click here for your local time.

Update #2: As per the notice on the site:

NationStates is closed over Christmas because the database server blew up and it will take forever to restore everything from backup. We aim to be back online by the end of the year.

The forums are currently online, and we will keep things that way if possible.

A storage drive on the server that runs the game is nearing the end of its lifespan. If it were to reach the end of its lifespan and die, it could cause unexpected downtime for a while. Therefore we’re remedying the problem now by replacing it.

It depends on the staff and equipment of our host. We have no control over any aspect of this besides ordering the hardware replacement.

Ah, I do love me some NationStates downtime. I'll be reading my Max Barry book while sipping on hot cocoa from a NationStates mug with candles from Australia and while sitting on a nice little throne of papers from the Moderation forum.

This will not be happening tomorrow, but we are nonetheless likely to experience some downtime in about a week. Or earlier, if it the device fails on us.

Yes the data was backed up a few days ago and nearly all of it has actually been moved to a different storage medium as we prepare for a swap. Starting with national trends which were relocated to have more available space weeks ago.

Looks like we had one heck of a delayed update for some of the regions - 3:30 pm here on the Eastern Seaboard for a few - is this downtime at all connected?
