Hello everyone. Per Sedge's announcement, I am taking over the position of Gameside Communications Development Manager. The goal of this position, is, of course, to gather ideas and figure out which ones are worth bringing to the attention of admin and which ones aren't. Before we go any further into this thread, I want to make it clear that I will be enforcing the Bad Faith standard here. Do not engage in bad faith when it comes to discussing ideas to make this game a better place. It's that simple.

Discussion in this thread would be difficult, so please do not comment on any ideas posted here by quoting/replying to that post in this thread. Please use the threads for those respective ideas instead.

You might ask "what belongs in Gameside Communications?" That's pretty simple. Anything on the game-side (i.e. not forum) that involves one or more players talking to each other, or the NSVerse at large. World Factbook Entry? Communications. Dispatches? Communications. Telegrams? Communications. Gameplay mechanics suggestions? Go post about it in Sedge's thread please.

I'm also interested to see if anyone has comments about a11y/accessibility changes we can make. This doesn't explicitly fall under communications, but there isn't exactly a better place for it either and a11y is something I'm interested in seeing if we can make better across the site. Although again, if it's forum-side, drop it in Reppy's thread, not mine.

I will maintain a list in this OP of all ideas submitted here, along with a rough estimate of their priority. Please feel free to post in this thread with any questions you might have for me about gameside communications, status updates on ideas I've promised to look into, etc. Don't telegram me, I will tickbox -> delete your telegram.

.Able to have an option where a region can be created but is truly founderless and the region will say it was founded by soso and so nation in it's history page

.Changing a founderless region to having a founder

This should have the following criteria for nations of the region:

.Resident status for 50 days or more
.3000 influence to start the process (In regions with less than 10, 500 influence is needed)
.Anyone with higher influence can stop this at the cost of 4,000 influence
.Founder must stay delegate
.28 updates needed inorder to have founder change occur without disruption
.All influence is used up
.Must have 500 members at maximum and a minimum of 5

Following the process in the OP for a second time, I bring this idea back to this thread for consideration:

[Nation = flagonly] tag for displaying mini-flags in line with text

This proposal is for the [nation=flagonly] tag (or a similar standalone tag variant). It is intended to display the flag scaled down with a max height defined by the font size. It should be noted that this should require no new functionality in game, as the standard [nation ][/nation] tag already results in the display of a national miniflag in line with the name of the nation when used gameside. This tweak would simply remove the name of the nation from that existing line of code, such that it could be followed by something else, such as the name of a person of that nation. So this should result in no additional stress on the gameside system, no additional threat of exploitation or spam and minimal if any additional coding to implement. It simply would improve the ability for users to communicate and format information gameside.

A similar but different prior feature existed ( nation=noname ) which displayed a nations full size flag but was removed as it was seen as a workaround to include images in TG. This is not a concern for nation=flagonly because - like the existing gameside nation tag; the size of the flag is limited for use as a miniflag. You could also simply set permissions on the use of this tag to only be allowed in places where the [img] tag is used if any such concern remained.

This feature would be a game-changing feature for multi-nation factbooks. Sports is one example, shown below, where this flagonly representation of a nation would be a gamechanger in formatting of factbooks. The same would apply for multi-nation RPs such as war where the name of a conflict participant can be displayed alongside their nation flag without having to double the size of each entry in a factbook in order to include a reference to the nation of that input. For In-Character functions such as multi-national organizations, candidates for a position could be displayed in the format [nation=flagonly] Candidate Name which would display the flag of the nation followed by their candidate for the position. [ ie: instead of [Flag] NATION the factbook could be able to display [Flag] Person of that Nation. ]

This is also critically important in condensing information for display on the mobile site. There is an example in the thread that visually shows how this feature would greatly clean up the formatting of some factbooks for display on mobile.

Hello! I am pleased to announce that things are happening here. Several of these changes are being made by me as we speak. This change is also on my to-do list.

Please do not expect a timeline. I am bad at those. The changes will be tested on NS3 by staff first to make sure that I haven't introduced any world-ending bugs, and then they will go live at an unspecified point in the future.
