Questions Regarding Stats

I have 2 questions regarding stats.

First Question: How is stats going negative calculated? For example, if a stat is at 0, and it goes down by 50%, it will become a negative number, but in actual maths, that doesn't add up. So what is the actual calculation used then, if not -50%?

Second Question: What are the leading causes of death determined by? For example, how would one get 50% of deaths from acts of god? It doesn't seem to be correlated to religiousness, so I'm not sure.

Also, sorry if this is the wrong forum.

"Acts Of God" is generally a phrase that simply refers to accidents.

Then what statistics increase it? Death Rate in general?

Increases to your Insurance industry should increase it, because Insurance policies sometimes use the term when listing circumstances under which they don't have to pay out.

I'm fairly confident the actual calculations are locked behind the Wall of OPSEC.
