Why do we still have the Weather stat

I don’t get the point of having a stat dedicated to weather, seeing is that it’s next to impossible to know how to raise or lower it answering issues. This stat is a joke, and pretty much everyone on NS knows it’s a joke. My nation for example, has top 14% for weather, but in reality, Talkeetna Alaska is either snowy, dreary, or just freezing cold throughout most of the year outside June, July, and August. What is the reason why this stat still exists?

So why not laugh about it?

It’s really not that funny. Also surprised you aren’t a moderator since you are one of the most famous nations on this platform

Stats don't have to be used, but generally nations like to categorize their average weather and climate in the real world, hence the stat, and like the others as well, which are based on the same principle.

Forum popularity doesn't make someone a candidate for a moderator.

Then ignore it and move it. It is not going to be removed at a whim of your will.

Most of us are content with it, and some have fun trying to chase higher and higher the constantly burning and crashing stat that is weather. Its impossibility and unpredictability is the core element of stat's point of existence.

It's actually not that random; it's affected by things that normally affect it, so rather than the weather encouraging you to go outdoors, going outdoors makes the weather nice!

However, it does work in fixed, constant increments, so it can be (deliberately) a bit more capricious than other stats.

Its a fun stat!

I'm totally not biased with it being my top stat...

I mean if you turn your nation into a desert it won’t rain. So maybe issues can affect weather

Which is ridiculous in itself... and its underlying assumption that increases in the 'Most Cultured' stat must involve people spending more time indoors ignores the fact that many cultural activities might be outdoors ones (especially for Bears, rather than just wimpy Humans...) anyway.

Mind you, in my opinion, its unit of measurement is ridiculous enough to discredit the entire stat to start with.

Indeed, beagles understand the plight of bears. Sometimes it seems the reason Weather exists is to serve as the archnemesis of Culture and vice versa

The interesting point is that Weather is both positively correlated with some stats that are typically seen as good things (Environmental Beauty, Health), and negatively correlated with other stats that are typically seen as good things (Culture, Intelligence), which means that if you just try to raise all of those stats whenever you get the chance, Weather itself will wander around rather randomly based on which issues you've gotten lately, sometimes seeing long strings of decreases and sometimes seeing long strings of increases - without having any actual randomness in its computation at all. I find that I seem to manage a slight net upwards trend, but there are often long periods where Weather just seems to keep going down and I wonder if I'll ever manage to get it back up to my previous maximum, although eventually I always do.

Hey, we like outdoors races as much as the next pony, but we still have our share of introverted bookworms.

Besides, bears do live in houses, although they have rather varying opinions about exactly how hard/soft the beds should be, etc.

Personally, I’ve long been amused that a stat that would seem to indicate some kind of physical measurement (meters of sunlight) allows for some truly massive negative numbers - there’s actually about 40 nations with a weather score with a larger negative number than Kindjal’s positive number.

I’ve come to the conclusion negative numbers represent the weather being so bad that it propagates back in time, but your mileage may vary.

Huh. I suppose negative meters of sunlight would mean that your nation is radiating more light back into space than it's receiving from the sun?

I can imagine that making for an unpleasant place to live.

Also an option, true

Weather and culture stats are nice because they don't have decimal numbers and are consistent. I'm totaly not biased since i'm in top 1% in weather and culture. Also yeah, it's suppose to be joke stat.

It is, just like any other stats, a fun one. You can take it seriously or not, and that won't change the game in the slightest. You can even wear it as a badge of honor or shame, like how some nations pride themselves with high Charmlessness, but for some, it's a mark of shame.

----

Though admittedly, I do find it a bit unusual that it's measured in meters. I would have expected Lux Hours, or even square meters, but eh, that's fine. :P
