Suggestion: Include the year in statistics charts.

Postby Krimzen » Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:09 am

Currently, the statistics chart includes the exact time and date of the given point but does not tell you the year. If you have been operating a nation for several years, you have to manually count each date backwards to figure out when the number at the given point was true. The exact year is surely clearly known, as they are shown along the bottom of the graph, but again, when you have thousands of given points it becomes impossible to accurately estimate the year when it is only given in three month increments.

I do hope this change will be considered, it would be a nice addition especially for nations that have spanned very long periods (10+ years).
Thanks, -Krimzen :)

Can't you look at the bottom of the graph? Or does the graph look different on mobile or something?

I am unsure about mobile but I can confirm they exist on computer/laptop. This is visible at the bottom where is will say for example:

Month/year or APR/22

Hope that helps!

Yes, they are visible along the bottom as I stated, but if you want to look at a specific year from a given data point you are forced to essentially count backwards rather than being able to instantly see the year as you move your pointer over the graph.

You can highlight a section of the chart with click + drag so that you're only looking at a year at a time. Is that at all helpful?

Okay, yeah, I don't know what Past Ankuran was thinking, because I reread your OP and I think I understand the problem now. Once you've been around for years, the graph's bottom axis only shows three months (Jan-May-Sep for me) per year, presumably for readability. Looking for a given date between these months requires you to either move your cursor along the trend to find the date you're looking for, or to highlight and zoom in on a given slice of the overall graph which will then show more months (which, thanks, Calamworie, I didn't know you could do that :p ). You want an option to quickly view just your trend over a given year, with a full twelve months along the bottom, and without having to drag along the trend itself. Have I got that right? Because if so, yeah, I can see how something like a Year dropdown to zoom directly to a given year would be handy.

It is somewhat helpful, but I suppose simply adding the year along the data point would be much more useful and pragmatic for what I am proposing. It just seems incomplete that the date and month are shown when the year is readily available. And having to zoom in at an approximate period of time equaling a year just seems unnecessary when it could be so easily viewable.

And, of course, it is not an option to zoom on mobile :(
