N-Day September 2022

N-Day is, of course, returning this year, giving everyone the opportunity to ready defences, forge alliances, and lob nukes at one another... and then sit back in disgust as the world is taken over by radioactive crabs.

The start time for the event will be 10pm GMT Saturday 24th September, or see here for your local time.

This is the same time as we did it last year, intended to maximise the amount of NSers who can be online at the start of the event, and also so that the event as much as possible runs over weekend time, when people are most likely to be avaialble.

One change is expected to be in place this year, which is advance registration and joining of factions. This is currently slated to open 3 days prior to the event starting. This change has been coded by admin, but not yet fully tested. The 3 day window is intended to give casual players sufficient time to get their factions established, so they have a fighting chance when the event starts, but avoids having the build up drag on for too long. EDIT: This is now confirmed.

For reference, changes were discussed primarily here last year. The additional N-Day didn't happen this year, but is currently intended for February 25th, 2023.

A February N-Day is more than adequate compensation for the ongoing refusal to restore the OG event to August, where it belongs because NS does not have any summer minigames of any description whatsoever :P

I've never experienced an N-Day before but I have two questions:
1. Does this affect any stats and stuff or is it just for fun?
2. What's the goal of all of this?
3. I don't really understand what it is.

Wow, announced more than a month in advance? That's a significant change from past years when these things only got announced at the last moment if you didn't forget them entirely

Well, I guess you could start trying to convince people to join your faction already, but don't be surprised if it turns out they've already forgotten all about their promise by the time the event actually rolls around

Just for fun.

Traditionally, there'll be a news post showing who got the highest-scoring factions, but it doesn't affect anything else. Even if nothing is left of your country but a radioactive crater, it'll be magically cleaned up once the event ends and you're back to business as usual.

2. What's the goal of all of this?

To exterminate each other in glorious nuclear fire.

Your faction scores one point for every nuke one of your members successfully lands on another faction, and loses one point for every nuke someone else lands on you. Intercepted nukes don't affect score. Faction with the most points wins!
