You have to think realistically here. Most likely if this change is implemented, it will be done to new CTEs. Unless the data of CTEd nations is stored in a database it would take ages to put in all of the nations that have CTEd

I agree. It'd take at least 3 months to store all those that CTE'd, not including those that CTE'd within that 3 months.

And new CTEs arrive every day, so it will effectively be an eternal converting unless we all temporarily paused CTEing.

They could just make a script that converts the nations to make them CTE'd, then store their data.

On the home page (available when you log out) today:
7,962,284 nations served!

So a whole new server just to hold that database would be required. I imagine this will be right at the top of the priority list....

I'd say that the overall page looks fairly nice, though I would like it to have some sort of feature that includes the flag files of each ex-nation.

Even with two decades worth of trolls using Nazi flags or other malicious content? I mention this in my first reply here, but how would those entrusted with taking care of this site filter through millions and millions of flags, let alone address all the other challenges this new Boneyard would possibly present via the DEAT/OS?

(For reference:)

Dexterra wrote:How will this change address challenges it could present to site staff through DEAT/OS nations? Such as residual malicious content in customizable fields, material for gloating or even shrines to well-known users (e.g. Layem)not to say that any of these will happen? The current Boneyard seems like an equalizing resting place for the game's good, bad and ugly, so how does this change plan to maintain that - and if not, what is the alternative, especially considering the graves of those 'disgraced' and 'soiled'?

I second Dexterra. While a more detailed Boneyard seems like a good idea on paper, I do have to question what will happen to nations that got banned for things like setting their national animal to the n-word or their currency to an SQL injection. Those seem like pretty dangerous things to memorialize.

A good fix is that it wouldn't show some details if the nation was removed by the mods.

I'm not seeing the value of this. Often the problem is the nation name itself. If you're searching the Boneyard on that name, you already know that's the name. Other times it's their RMB or forum posts or flags, which aren't currently displayed in the Boneyard anyway.

Yea, but I think it would be a good idea for all of the detail, and if a nation has an inappropriate fields then just blur it out

We prefer not to.

We're closing in on 8 million of (ex) nations. That would mean 8 million flags to store. Even if we subtract the vast amount of standard flags, it will still remain a lot of hard disk data that we could use for better stuff.

(also, in some cases, we would still really really really want to scrub the image from our servers)

yea, it would be bad for it.
yea so just put the ex nation flag on it

And still bring onto the server nearly as many Boneyard nations as the population of New York City? Many of which have reused names or could one day have its name reused? And may also contain other malicious content than its flag?

well if there would be any other malicious fields then just blur it out
and for the names that would be reused, what would happen is when it would get reused the previous nation before it got reused will be removed from it

While creative it would take up a lot of disk space that has very minimal gain as many have mentioned. As well as “blurring” out mod nuked ones that would take extra mod time as I’m sure several nations have maintained rule breaking things thus far and flew under the radar. It was easier for me to just use the ex nation flag when designing this as it displayed the intent better

Disk space can be expensive and often results in slower processing speed of data. (The 2nd part I don’t know how much that would effect day to day) the first is a big reason NS doesn’t have a lot of things :P

hmm good point. also why doesn't season 3 exist (completely off-topic from the new boneyard)

Ask that in the card forum, even though you made the thread it will be considered threadjacking if it goes to far.
