Can you change the trajectory of population growth?

Postby Boiledcabbage » Tue Jul 06, 2021 1:04 am

It seems like all nations grow in population at the same pace, but are there any policies that you can implement(like one child policy) that artificially alter the trajectory of population growth in your nation? Do policies interfering with migration/lifespan/death rate affect population growth? Because some nations have lifespan of 14 years and a booming population and that's kinda ...yikes

Issues cannot affect population growth. The population grows at a fixed rate of 5-7 million per day (once one reaches a population of 62 million) so long as the nation is active.

Some of urrs ignore the game's "official" population figures once they pass the levels that we consider reasonable for our nations: Bears Armed, for example, has IC a population of less than 20 million rather than the displayed number of over 30 billion. The factbook about "Corrections to WA Survey report on this nation" to which I link from my sig mentions this detail.
(And, in fact, that RPed lower population for the nation as a whole also "cancels" the game-assigned separate figures for four of my related 'puppet' nations -- and large parts of the figures for several more of those -- as well...)

The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

No, it increases automatically each day.

I get what you mean. My lifespan is currently 29 and decreasing, while my population is 263mil and increasing. Your answer choices can have a direct impact on the former but not on the latter

And the calculations behind the 'lifespan' figures given make assumptions like a lack of "workers' rights" laws meaning a population composed mostly of oppressed & impoverished slum-dwellers, or government-funded healthcare being the only healthcare: Nations (like this one) that lack such laws because their people generally couldn't be pushed around in the ways that those laws would otherwise be needed to fix anyway, and that have IC a perfectly adequate combination of charitably-funded and [affordable] "private" healthcare get told that our populations have average lifespans significantly below the [IC] "real" values.
:(

There's actually a post somewhere in this forum, from some years ago, in which [Violet] herself admits that because the game wasn't coded to take nations of educated Bears into account the "deaths from Scurvy" figure given for this nation -- which I suspect is a factor in the 'lifespan' calculation -- is inaccurate & legitimately can be can be ignored...
:)

The lifespan figure actually fell drastically, to only [about] one-third of its former level, when the coding was re-worked to reduce the favourable effects of good environments: As the IC value obviously wouldn't have changed by so much so quickly I regard that as additional proof from an IC viewpoint that the Survey was "just guessing"...
