I have experienced this as well. Waiting a minute or two then refreshing fixes it, but yeah.

Seems like if your nation got an upvote earlier on it is likely to remain in the top and receive more chances for votes, while if your nation was rate down once, or never rated you're unlikely to ever make the top 30k.

Randomness is like that! It's not a round robin where all nations would be voted on the same number of times.

Once the event is six hours old, you are less likely to be asked to vote on nations with few/no votes. Beginning then, there will indeed be a kind of snowball effect. But nations earn points based on the quality of the nations they are preferred over, so they can catch up quickly. That is, it's better to be preferred once over a popular nation than to be preferred several times over an unpopular one.

Right now, though, it is purely random draws.

But what will happen to nations who have gotten no votes in the first 6 hour period?
Seems like any nation which took a long time to first show up will be excluded from any chance of getting a high ranking if low vote nations will be shown less after the first 6 hours.

I did that and it didn't fix the problem.

I'm pretty sure she's saying that nations with little votes at 21:00 PST will show up less frequently.

I think she means nations with a lot of downvotes. Or at least, I hope. It wouldn't make sense to disqualify nations because the roulette wheel never landed on their space.

Now I really dislike randomness...

You participate in NS Sports, you should know what a fickle mistress randomness is :p

My only complaint about this is that there's so many puppets and card farmer nations that it's hard for some of us to even get a ranking at all.

These would make cool s3 cards (but with slight tweaks of only a row or two of badges lol

A lot of people, including myself, disagree with you.

Yeah, with over 30k puppets on the first page of https://www.nationstates.net/page=tag_s ... et_storage, that's over 12% of NS nations in those 10 regions. With thousands more puppets in other puppet storage regions, the total puppets would be dramatically reduced by either excluding nations in those regions, or making nations opt in, or even both, excluding only nations in puppet storage regions but allowing them to opt in. While doing this, I ran 10 things. The first had no blatant puppets (e.g. puppets with numbers/letters in the set names), the 2nd to 10th all had at least one puppet (several had 2 puppets). The 11th tbf appears to have no blatant puppets. Will wait til the 6 hour mark, but it has definitely been the #1 complaint about this event (both onsite here, in the Gameplay forum thread, and offsite), the sheer amount of puppets (mostly card farmers, and a good proportion Wombles)

Re being the look of S3 cards - there have been some very polar views, some loving, some hating. Personally I like the look of them.

I know that randomness means some nations can get voted on multiple times before others get voted on once, but I do think it's a little sus when I get the same nation (Max Stirner 198) presented to me twice in just a few match ups -- and yet there are other nations that haven't been voted on at all.

How does one nation get voted on twice BY ME before other nations get voted on once BY ANYONE?

[v] I know you do lots of nifty stuff, but this really looks broken to me.

I don't think it's counting multiple votes, because that would be very obvious in our logs. So it sounds like it's not registering your vote at all.

Are you voting by clicking the nation cards or via the buttons below them? Does it make any difference?

Do you get a "Your vote has been registered" message?

Edit: Never mind, I think I fixed the problem. This might have been caused by tripping some anti-bot code.

It will definitely be tougher, because they will be selected a lot less often. But they will gain points quickly if they happen to be selected alongside a popular nation, and beat them.

Where can I see my nation's ranking on my nation page? I'm looking but there doesn't appear to be anything new or indicating what the rank is supposed to be.

Since no one voted for you yet, you are currently unranked.

For what it's worth, it was based on the button below the nation cards, and it was displaying a "Your vote has been registered" for each page load.

So will they get more points if they beat a popular nation rather than an unpopular nation, or am I just reading this wrong?

A feature suggestion that I would like is to be able to see my own nation's card. Sure, I can see the ranking, but to be able to see the card itself? Kinda difficult.

It would help especially when you want to change your banners or your mottos, or your flag. (Yes, you can change them and the card will reflect that).

The best events tend to have some sort of regional or interregional engagement and coordination. With that being said, this could have been improved a little bit by splitting the voting into two parts, with the first part being voting limited to nations in your region, and the second part being where the top 2 or 3 or 4 nations from each region are voted on by the whole world (small bonus: less puppets).

Basically, anyone in the top 100 stands a chance, anyone who isn't or hasn't gotten a vote yet has already lost.

GG

To be honest, I wish I could eliminate myself from the mini-game, because right now it is causing unnecessary pressure on my mind. It’s one of the reasons why I do not like contests.

Gotta admit, I'm a little peeved at the moment with this. None of my 3 accounts are ranked (in fact, spectacularly, one of my puppets is in a region where not a single nation is ranked[there are around 20 nations in it]). But oh, I sure as heck am seeing womble 4320 vs cardfarmer96 a fair bit.
