Could we have this then? Staff members don’t take up limited spots in whatever rarity they get, I think it’s a good idea

That already exists. A new card type is the discussion, since volunteer staff do not “take up” a slot then at least that is not a problem needing a resolution. The idea of a cooler color and name that is more rare or even equal in value to legendaries is on the table, called mythic. I think the confusion is around what roll would it fill?

Again i would suggest it be a role that takes from the active but not current legendary cards, so epics, even ultra rares, and focus on differing criteria the non farmers, non currently legends have. Wont someone thing of the roleplayers?

Alternately it could use the existing system and simply replace the term and color legendary. Make it about random draws and eliminate the card pull party exploit and eliminate the ability to farm them which is currently widely abused within the card community.

Staff takes up Legendary slots. There's only a certain percentage of Legendary cards available each season and a large number of those are Staff cards.

A quick count shows something like 43 Staff (Admin, GM, FM, Issues Editor, Secretariat, Mentor) cards in S2. 43 out of 169 is sizable.

Sure, it would be interesting.
But mythic should then probably only be mods.

If a change is needed, I support changing how rarities are calculated so that staff members automatically qualified for Legendary rarity (i.e. Moderators, Admins and Issue Editors) don't take up the normal 1/1000 slots and are counted separately, which was already sort of proposed above. That would open up more slots for other players that want a legendary rarity.

I disagree with the creation of a new rarity solely for staff, because reaching this new top rarity would be much, much harder than reaching Legendary status (which is hard, but doable). Furthermore, it would entirely depend on being promoted to a staff position by other people, while some nations have achieved Legendary status simply answering issues by themselves.

Of course this whole argument depends on whether a change is even needed. I am fine with the current system and opposed to creating a new rarity just because. But if the community wants a change, I think the above is more reasonable than creating a new rarity.

Also, the only card with that rarity should be Arceu5 Testlandia.

Or I suppose you could make a rarity entitled "Staff Legendary" and so on.

That brings in the complication of a new rarity, which doesn't complement the above sentiments.

Very offtopic, but with NS being 18, the chances of a mod younger than the game have risen considerably :)

We weren't when we were first modded, but some of us have been doing this for 17 years and counting, so... you do the math. :lol2:

EDIT: But we should probably get back to the actual topic of the proposed additional card rarity and away from "How old are the mods?", that's not really related. :P

What if the rarity of mods was like Staff or whatever, and had the legendary gold but with a wrinkled texture on it? :p

Maybe I missed this in my read-through of the thread, but, if we're talking about a theoretical name for a proposed Staff card "level", why not called it "Honored"? The term, "Honored" is notably different than any of the spelling for current existing card levels, and, as game staff, aren't they already honored/respected leaders in the game? That seems appropriate.

And, to set "Honored" cards further apart from the existing card levels, give them a distinctive pattern, instead of solid color. This would be similar to opening a pack of baseball cards, and finding a distinctive -- and visually valuable -- hologram or foil card. Its clear distinctiveness from the rest of the game cards would easily give it collection value as a separate set.

As a professional brand developer in real life, I can honestly say..... distinctively visual content sells, even if there's no added monetary value to the product in question. The more unique, attractive, or eye-catching that visual is, the higher value it often takes on -- even if that value is only perceived in the eyes of the viewer.

Aside from the problem that adding another rarity just is not necessary, most of the staff cards already stick out because of their banner badges:
You can see the mint green and note red of RP Mentor and Moderator on Lamoni's card: https://www.nationstates.net/page=deck/card=363
A golden banner for being an Issues Editor on the card of Baggieland: https://www.nationstates.net/page=deck/card=341374

There is also the Secretariat, who do yes have a lamer badge, as you can see on Bears Armed: https://www.nationstates.net/page=deck/card=582
I do think the Secretariat should have a better badge, but also they're not technically staff, although they actually are... anyways they need a cooler badge!

But point is staff are already distinct and the system functions fine with only 6 rarities.

Hey, I'm not actively pushing for another card rarity, I merely offered ideas, based upon the topic being discussed. Some people seem to like the idea of staff card, others don't. I can understand both sides of the coin. For those that like the idea of a staff card, my suggestions are valid.
