Issue validity question (issues #1301 and #1325)

Postby Lamebrainia » Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:57 pm

Good day.

I'm not sure if this is a question or a bug report, and if this is the right place to post it... For some reason, I've been getting issues related to socialism and communism the past 2 days, and I was wondering if that was normal, given my nation's category and enacted policies.
Nation category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Government policies:
  • Theocracy
  • Monarchy
  • Feudalism
  • Public Protest
  • Sortition

Economy policies:
  • Socialism
  • AI Planning
  • Child Labor
  • No Internet
  • Cannabis
  • Slavery
  • Space Program
Is this due to Socialism being enacted, or have I broken something? How exactly does Socialism work with Slavery? It's all quite strange.

This is probably because you gained the Socalism policy from answering issue #472 option 1/2 (not sure which). I just found the effect line in your Happenings, 4 days ago - "only AIs know why the nation is rapidly increasing its semiconductor stockpile".

The issues engine seems to increase the chance of issues you haven't answered in a while, or issues that you've only just become eligible for. So, since becoming Socialist 4 days ago, not only are you eligible for issues like #1301 or #1325, you've got a higher chance of receiving those issues that you haven't seen before.

I'd also note that the game treats Socialism and Communism as identical (unfortunate but unavoidable), so since becoming "Socialist" you're now eligible for all the "planned economy" issues, which vary between socialism and communism on the author's whim.

Rampant statistical speculation from before then is entirely unofficial

Normally, validity queries should be posted in the Help Us Fix Old Issues thread.

As SherpdaWerp says, you appear to have briefly brought in Socialism with 472.2 on the 16th of October. You then cancelled this with #1325, but -- by this point #1301 would have already been in your Issue Box.

You were eligible when you received them.

How exactly does Socialism work with Slavery? It's all quite strange.

You can have both. There's no conflict from a stats perspective.

Thank you. I was aware of the former, but not the latter. It is unfortunate.

Thank you. But shouldn't a nation's category change accordingly, as well as some of the policies listed? Because a nation can't have Monarchy and Slavery if it is socialist, in my opinion. There might be no conflict from a stats perspective, but it doesn't make much sense logically, I think.

We try and let players simulate any nation they wish (within the policies). Thus, installing Socialism does not uninstall Monarchy or Slavery.

And there has been slavery under at least some systems of communism (which, unfortunately, due to the way it's coded, the game treats identically to socialism). The Gulag system in the Soviet Union, China's forcing of the Uighur Muslims into the forced labour. North Korea is a hereditary socialist dictatorship (and the hereditary inheritance of a ruling position is not too dissimilar to a monarchy).

They can coexist in real life. It's up to the player whether they coexist in the player's nation.

EDIT: A nation's classification is based on where its freedoms sit (above/below certain levels). It's coded into the game and changes automatically as your stats change.
