Change Zombie Day to Demon Day!

It’s generally touchy when made light of in a number of Christian denominations. Considering Stalker proposed a priest option, I’m just recommending tact. There are issues on the subject, so I don’t think the idea itself is taboo.

These Christian denominations find it offensive that the game gives an option of killing of demons? Seems odd. Anyways the game can say they’re Violetist demons or something to avoid such an issue

What an exquisite idea! I would not have participated in Z-day this year because of the reflection and the near verisimilitude it has to the COVID situation /irl. (sans the zombies...maybe) Demonos, being a nation of Demons, would love the opportunity to become fully demonic. Yet as others have suggested, leave it to the Christians to ruin everything. Hopefully the facelift will actually become a reality!

The Monster Mash idea isn't so bad either. We only hope that "demon" is an option there as well. Great suggestion, my lord Stalker. ADMIN... MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!

It's been brought up to admin. There def seems to be some interest in the idea. Not sure of the ability to make significant changes to this year's event though, so we shall wait and see what happens.

With concern over the Zombie event being a virus themed NS event, I thought of this idea.

The mechanics of the event would remain the same, but instead of Zombies, we have it be demons/ghosts instead of Zombies. Instead of populations becoming infected, they become possessed.

Military option would be killing possessed people instead of Zombies.

Cure Option would be priest researching exorcisms to remove the demonic spirit.

Join them option be Satanist summoning demons to possess people faster.

I think would be an elegant solution, all that would be needed is to change and update the text and would also give the event a fresh twist.

Another more elaborate idea I had is what I like to call "Monster Mash"

In this version each nation would start as by random or choice a chosen monster, Demon, Werewolf, Vampire, or Zombie. They then would infect other nations to become there chosen type. And instead of the event being about curing Zombies, it be about one of the monster factions having converted the largest population.

This idea would need a bit more coding and fleshing out, but also would be a pretty cool event twist.

I did mention this idea in Z-Day (Zombie Apocalypse) and COVID-19, but I a lot of different discussions were going on, so I thought i'd flesh out the idea and make a thread for it.

I'd suggest you create a browser plugin for you browser of choice that simply replaces every instance of "zombie" with "demon" on any page it renders, if you are that bothered.

Me? I love Z-Day! Been looking forward to it for a whole year, and will probably not sleep the whole 36 hours while I cure as many zombies in my region as I can.

For those who are confused, consider this: When Z-Day happens, participants will most likely stay glued to their terminals for much of the time, thereby reducing the chance they will head out and mingle with real people. Thus Z-Day actually would likely reduce the the rate of real-life physical contact, and thus reduce the transmission rate likelihood among participants for the duration of the event. So, not only will ZDay 2020 be fun, it will probably save a few lives in real life. If anyone thinks it "looks bad" to have a ZDay event during the pandemic, then I ask you this: Which is more important? Saving lives? or appearances? If you don't like ZDay 2020 because you think it looks bad, then you apparently are prioritizing what you think are 'good appearances' over lives saved (actual objective benefit). If that is the case, my condolences - you can just ignore NS for a day or try to pretend the game says "Demons" or "Aliens" instead of "Zombies". Whatever floats your boat.

It is really a matter of whether there is enough time to make changes to the mini-game to avoid causing offence to players who may have been affected by the pandemic. With COVID-19 still raging in many parts of the world, just learning to ignore it will not cut it.

No way am I suggesting to cancel the event, I agree having the event in any form is better than no event, it would keep people home to a degree.

Personally if Z day roles out like normal it won't bother me much, but if the admin team wanted to be more sensitive to those affected by the pandemic I think it could be a good alternative.

Seriously though, as cool as this would be, it seems unlikely now. But i fully support both ideas. Monster Mash is certainly interesting. Perhaps it could lead to even further game developments, though who knows.
