Hello all! To facilitate a hardware upgrade, gameside will be unavailable for about 35 minutes tonight from 11:45pm PDT (Sunday, August 30). We did something similar a few weeks ago.

See in your local time.

As usual, people who are logged into the forums at that time may be able to continue posting, even though gameside is down. (The trick here is to stick to a single browser tab and only click around the forums - don't use your back button, or refresh the page, or anything else that might make the forum try to reload your authentication details.)

It's always "supposed" to be only 35 minutes. One time that 35 minutes but wound up being 4 hours.

Not especially, but we're hoping for performance improvements by migrating away from an old database format that doesn't hold up well at high volumes. We should be ready to switch over to that machine sometime this week.

Yikes, yes. We're currently transferring data from our old database server to our new one. Since we're doing that while keeping the site up, everything is a bit slower, which is especially noticeable in operations that were bottlenecked by the old database server already, which mainly means the daily updates.
