Factbook Size Limit

Hello. I'm not usually in this part of the forum, so I apologise if I posted in the wrong place.

In any case, this is regarding the on-site factbooks. In multiple attempts to update one of them, which admittedly is rather long, I was slapped with this message each and every time:

Was there a character or kilobyte or some other sort of limit in the factbooks I was never told about, or is this some other issue? Thanks.

And of note is that your factbook, as of now, has 79,196 characters, including space, and BBCodes. Excluding title, but even with title, I say around 79250, give or take.

You can view the raw factbook by either editing it, or if you want to, click on the title to "turn" the factbook into a dispatch view, then click on Raw at the bottom.

But admittedly, the "Edit" button and selecting all and pasting it in Word is easier to do a word count.

Thank you!

Though, according to MS Word, the factbook (including the updated section that doesn't want to go through) has ~80,578 characters, inlcuding spaces and BBcodes. If the limit is about 97,000, that means I have approximately 16,422 more characters of leeway to put in before reaching the supposed limit. I wonder where they went? :deepthonk:

In any case, I think I'll be dividing and conquering this factbook instead of trying to push it. To be honest, it's become more of an obnoxious wall of text than a mildly interesting bite-sized read.

Maybe the system counts based on bytes and not characters. Non-ASCII characters require more than 1 byte (up to 4) to store in UTF8.

I have a habit of using two space characters between a full stop and the next sentence. However, NS displays these as a single space character. I had a long dispatch that hit the limit, so used a search and replace to change my double spacing to single.
Though on consideration, I'd be surprised if that would take up more than around 1000 characters of a dispatch.

I think - and this isn't fixing the bug, but more working around it, you could have a separate archived news book full of the old headlines, if they are taking up too much space in the raw data.
