I'm sorry about that. I changed things so that this minor update would record some update speed-related statistics it normally doesn't, but somehow that prevented it from starting automatically. Update has now been started, about half an hour late.

Some parties are very interested in update speed statistics. Will the gathered data be shared with the player base, or was this more to diagnose and fix issues with the update speed, rendering such data only temporarily useful at best?

The latter - the data I am gathering would not be useful to the player base without releasing the NationStates source code, which isn't happening any time soon.

It would certainly be fun to do an unexpected boogie, but I won't be that cruel. You'd have some forewarning.

Not sure what kind of data you are looking for. But if all you care about is total duration, then an easy way to figure this out for past major updates is by checking the timestamps of previous data dumps (available in the HTML headers NS provides when you download the dumps). The dumps are posted as soon as the major ends.

These timestamps likely exaggerate the update duration a bit, given that it takes some time to compress and post the dump. But they should at least provide information about general trends.
