Quotes

Postby Domminus » Sat Jun 27, 2009 5:46 pm

Ok, I admit I am not computer savvy. I get it, really.

However, I seem to be having trouble with the quote function. Sometimes, when I quote people, and then try to post, it gives me an error about embedded quotes. However, when I try to edit the post, the quote is all screwed up and there's code everywhere all through it.

How can I still quote the person when I get the embedded quotes error?

You're only allowed 3 quote levels. You'll need to edit out some of the quote tags before you can submit. But all that you should get is a little message that says, "You may embed only 3 quotes within each other."

That's what I'm getting. I just don't know how to edit it so that I don't have three quotes embedded, and not have extra code stuff everywhere.

I'm sorry... computers are baffling to me.

You might be seeing something like this:
Code: Select all
[quote]Post 1 here
[quote]Post 2 here
[quote]Post 3 here
[quote]Post 4 here
[/quote][/quote][/quote][/quote]

Simply remove one of the quotes, so that you have something like this:
Code: Select all
[quote]Post 2 here
[quote]Post 3 here
[quote]Post 4 here
[/quote][/quote][/quote]

Ah. You're looking for 2 things. Now.. I have to do them backwards so they don't form a quote box, so bear with me. At the end of each quote will be a [/quote] tag. That's always there. At the beginning of each quote will be a [quote=Name of Nation] tag.

How do I know which tags to remove?

If you remove any of the quote tags it will no longer treat it as a quote. You'll also probably want to remove the text as otherwise it would appear someone else said it or you did.

Experiment using Preview until you get it right. Try gibberish that you make up and see what happens when you play with it :P

I'll try it... It seems awfully complicated.

/me runs off to experiment.
