Factbook formating is a trainwreck tbh

Postby Greater Hunnia » Thu Aug 29, 2019 5:35 am

I was trying to make some factbooks for my region, and I gotta say, that formatting is extremely dysfunctional. I was using this dispatch as a reference https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=330837.
Tables are nice, but the mobile version of the site completely butchers them. Tables themselves don't seem to have an option to set the width of columns manually, they are automatically sized to their content... Needless to say that this sometimes leads to undesirable results. Image placement: most sites allow resizing images placed using BBcode. Not Nationstates. It gets even worse when images are placed inside tables, as they get arbitrarily resized. When viewed on the mobile version, the images always seem to appear in full size when they are placed in tables. It is possible to put text between two images on the left and right-hand sides. It does not seem possible to put a table between images in a similar fashion. Scaling of various texts and images with different screen resolutions also seems to be off, what appears to be a neatly packaged text with images beside it will appear as a convoluted mess with another resolution. Not sure if it can be fixed, though. Either way, more customization options, especially regarding image sizes and placement, and improvement of how the mobile version handles tables would be much appreciated.

This nation DOES use NS statistics, but the interpretation for some of them might be a bit skewed.

In the Mobile version, there's an option which I've been using it for a while, which turns the mobile version off permanently, and the screen itself appears like how it's supposed to look like in terms of similarity with our laptop (or computers).

As I was checking your factbooks over the issue(s), I've discovered that you didn't use [tab=NUMBER][/tab] in your dispatches in which could help you out in many ways, which I use it as often for each line which is needed in order to make it look nice for your forums especially.

As checking out how much you'd need put; [tab=NUMBER][/tab] (200) is a must, which helps your factbooks and keeps it balanced. Every [tab][/tab] may not be perfected at first try but it'll always be needed to fix it as usual if you want it done perfectly.

As shown below, a quote in which can help you out;

Indent
Valid: Dispatches
Tag: tab
Option: number of pixels to indent

[tab=NUMBER]Some indented text[/tab]

Some indented text.

Otherwise, you just add more of your logo on the dispatch itself.

Yeah, I tried both indentation and experimenting with the number of images... the problem is that indentation may fix overspilling text on the left side but not on the right, besides, and it seems to me that the indentation number is pixels and not screen width percentage... which causes issues with different resolutions once again. Same for images: the same number of them might seem good with one resolution, completely inadequate with another, and way too much with yet another. I think I'll use tables anyway, mobile users be damned.
